But would like to download it for myself and flash from my ubuntu OS.

Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

I've used it on archlinux without any issues using the amdgpu open source driver on my supermicro server with the latest cards and bios just fine but haven't been able to get it working on three other machines that all have different motherboards and running a nearly identical setup so your results may vary. Oh also two of my boards are AMD 990FX - one on manjaro(Arch based), the other on ubuntu and it didn't work with either. For that matter the dos version in freedos didn't either but the Winflash version did on the one 990FX motherboard.

I've made backups and successfully flashed RX480,RX570,RX580 cards without any issues on that machine. So it may only work with certain chipsets and I haven't tried testing further.

Hope that helps
