Whats the point of creating a ripple account then not being able to activate it unless you have 300 xrp? if youre new to all this virtual currency and want to start off with ripple - yeah yeah they give them away for free, but not to people that are starting off or only people that have bitcoins. Im sure Ill figure a way to get ripple but in the mean time I spose I just need to vent.

Be very wary of relying on JavaScript for security on crypto sites. The site can change the JavaScript at any time unless you take unusual precautions, and browsers are not generally known for their airtight security.

I assume they will change that once they do a full launch. Maybe because it is in beta and they are trying to make it more difficult to do anything on there? I'm not sure but I agree it is a major obstacle to the common person. I bet they give you like 300 XRP for free when they open it to the general public and promote it during an official launch.

There was a thread in the regular section where people were loaning XRP to others with a promise of paying back. I think they raised the limit to 400 to get full site access. I was lucky and knew someone who had some from the previous giveaways and send me some (that I will pay back eventually).

The 300 XRP are some kind of security or elaborate CAPTCHA.
Otherwise bots could create spam accounts and fake webs of trust en masse.

Yes it was easy to get a 300 XRP loan at first when they were just worth about 20 cents. But then XRP went up and were worth $1. Now it is down a bit but still in that range and people can't afford to give out a lot of loans. but the price shoudl fall back down in time.

The Ripple concept greatly intrigues me. I'm also eager to get some XRP and see what we can do, although most of my friends aren't the adventurous early adopter type.

I'm sure they will have some more giveaways before long. At least I would expect them to.

Did anyone else get an email offer to buy your forum account?
I just got offered $12.00. I'm assuming it's because of this giveaway?

This is going to sound dumb, probably... But, can you mine XRP? I just learned of ripple today and I'm still very confused...

abrkn - Can you point me to any good threads that explain ripple and XRP? My initial impressions are that XRP is a "transactional" currency for ripple? Is that right?

All coins "pre-mined" with one party in control over the entire network while retaining 20% of the total supply for them selves...i'm i the only one that thinks that sounds odd?

Ok.. And what how/where do I find and add gateways? Only two gateways right now are Bitstamp and Weexchange...well those are the two major ones.
