Recently, I've saw a video that showcased a car that had a built-in wallet, powered by the blockchain. If successful enough, then it could become a revolutionary way to enable autonomous cars that would refuel themselves and drive to any point with the use of the blockchain.

Users would only need to pay a fee in a specific token, to be able to ride the car, all in a self-autonomous way.

What do you think about this? Will this make a huge impact in the future?  Roll Eyes

When everything gets developed based on the blockchain technology, automobile industry using it according to their way to innovate is possible. Specifically it is possible to get implemented in grown countries and small cities that are highly digitalized as well make a huge economy to the country.

imagine a way of using LN hub to move funds from your 'contract' through the departure location 'contract' (to trigger where you want to be picked up from) and then through the destination location 'contract' and then finally to the Uber /taxi service.

then you can also do things like the 'contracts' can pay micro amounts to the locations of departure/destination as a thankyou for offering their parking space for the few minutes of being picked up and dropped off. aswell as paying the Uber/taxi service that owns the autonomous/diriverless cars.

also because it requires settling. other conditions such as revoking/settling the 'contract' can be done by promising the service gets paid and ensuring he gets paid by getting you there, or revoked if the car didnt turn up. (much like an escrow)

also would work with public bus services

Just imagine using such a service now, with all this scaling problems. By the time you get your first confirmation for paying for the gas at the gas station, you would have been able to walk home. < Some confirmations takes hours > This will only work, if you use a token based off-chain solution, where you fund an account for tokens way in advance and then deduct tokens from that account with instant transactions.

This will not work now, but possibly in the future when scaling has been solved.

Wow Thats a good proposal from blockchain helping our infrastructure to flourish more. I think this will be a good sign for bitcoin users like us. Easy to use and convenient. I am thinking in the future  blockchain may also powers Ships, and airplanes.

no one is saying that LN is bad, IF...
IF treated as a VOLUNTARY side service like bitgo or coinbase that those who want to deposit <$50 of coin into can multispend many times a day.

but that should not mean bitcoins ONCHAIN scaling should be halted to FORCE even the infrequent users to put their life savings into an LN channel.

LN's niche is for the pocketmoney/daily spend amounts. much like the trust of third party services. because LN relies on someone else authorising your payment(dual signing) and them having the ability to revoke settlements after confirmation due to the maturity locks (much like banker 3-5 business day funds unavailable and chargebacks(research CLTV and CVS))

as for segwit. segwit solves nothing and gives little to no advantage to LN
LN is not a bloated 200 input 200 output tx. its just a 2in 2out meaning.
it doesnt care about quadratics
malleation isnt an issue due to the dual signing mechanics meaning the other party wont sign their half if the tx is malleated and definitely wont sign the same tx twice (one malleated one not)

segwits promises and requirements and benefits are empty gestures.
the real secret of segwit is not about users transaction 'fixes' but about positioning one 'brands' nodes at the center of the network as upstream filters that control black/white list nodes and filter what data the downstream nodes get and dont get.

that said. LN has utility for those wanting to spend many times a day and onchain has a utility for those wanting to spend less often.

a simple fix where a new real 'priority formulae' where it prefers to be cheap onchain for infrequent lean tx's and requires more satoshis to cover costs if you want to spend often and bloated. to then be cheaper offchain for the frequent tx's would solve things better than segwit. and do so without all the bait and switch crap that segwit is doing

Are you saying that the payment can be made through blockchain technology or are you saying that driverless cars using blockchain technology. Well, the world is rapidly adopting blockchain technology and it's only a matter of time before this could be a reality. This would actually be nicer, if they even allowed Bitcoins as a payment gateway, cause I would use blockchain only cause of that, do you mind if you share the link to the video want to see it. I am sure Google driverless cars could be adopting such technology, and add Bitcoins to it, just perfect. I am liking the idea only cause of Bitcoin being involved let's hope something like this happens

sounds good if it is possible it will make life easy. My only objection to it is that it will make blockchain and bitcoin as a pioneer currency too expensive to get. Before twenty twenty (2020) I believe such car should be available in some developed countries but how will the third world countries get it?

Yes it would make a huge impact in the future but, right now, there are so many questions that the Government, or others will ask about this idea, like How can we earn bitcoin to put in the built-in wallet that you are saying as a fuel and so on. So, before this idea to be implemented or to success, it have to face first the government, because if this thing will trend and most of the people buy this car, then the other Car's Company will going to argue about this thing, and then, the next thing that is going to happen is that, the Government will solve this issue by getting this car face-out, which is the worst scenario that could happen, well, it is just my opinion though.

No leave it. unless we have a stable blockchain till then we should not focus of implementation because we have to wait from 2 hours to even 2 days for the confirmation so we can't imagine of implementing bitcoin somewhere else. we need a really fast network for that.

Could you include the video in the post? Were they specifically talking about Bitcoin, or just blockchains in general and use with an altcoin?
Seems that it would also be pretty cool if the payments could be made automatically with NFC, there have been quite a few developments in that field. (NFC + Bitcoin)

Was that one of the self driving cars like the Google car? I have heard Uber is planning on using autonomous cars too, but implementing Blockchain payments is something new I have never heard of. Could you please add the video link to your post so we could check for ourselves what's up. Thanks  Wink

Edit. I think I have found the source of the video. Was it this one?

wow, this really is a great technology, I just finished reading were excited and interested, new technologies are always things we look for, I look forward to experience it, I hope it into drain. green technology, environmental friendliness is what the world expects. more amazing thing is that it uses technology blockchain, an unexpected convenience. this will be the foundation for the technological equipment in the future, I love this idea

Yes that would be very convenient. It is much more cooler if there are facial recognitions then after riding the taxi will just charged our wallet with the bitcoins for the taxi fare. But though its cool I still want to use apps to pay the taxi with bitcoin by scanning its qr code. I don really like full automation but I am good with semi automatic and semi manual kind of transportation system.

Certainly, but I think we are still in the early phase of the blockchain technology and so it could take quite some time before it can have major impact on our daily life if it was implemented now.

I don't really get the concept but if it is going to operate like a taxi which is pre fueled for us to drive around and pay Bitcoin then it is going to make life easier for us and that will also be safe.

If anonymity is a concern you will never be able to get it by paying a service that requires your physical presence to be delivered to you, even if you pay with mixed coins since it is very likely those cars will have cameras and then the address you use to pay for the ride will be linked to you.

You do have a point mate. The time it takes for transactions to confirm on the Bitcoin network nowadays, would render it useless for these types of applications. But I believe that as time goes by, blockchain technology would evolve and become highly efficient towards helping our world advance towards a better future.

In the meantime, I think that the "Ether" token would be ideal to use for smart contracts that would help drive these cars. Ethereum doesn't seem to have scalability issues unlike Bitcoin so it would be ideal for these tasks now. There is also Dash with its instant transactions, but I'm not sure if it would experience the same adoption and flexibility like Ethereum does with its smart contracts.  Undecided

sounds good if it is possible it will make life easy. My only objection to it is that it will make blockchain and bitcoin as a pioneer currency too expensive to get. Before twenty twenty (2020) I believe such car should be available in some developed countries but how will the third world countries get it?

Yes. Bitcoin is becoming more expensive each day, but in the bright side, there is always the option to create a specialized digital token that can underlies within the BTC or Ethereum blockchain for these types of applications. It would be very interesting to see how our future would be if this becomes successful on cars. Autonomous, self-driving cars with blockchain might be the next big thing towards helping improve our society.

I believe that there would be some sort of crowdfund that would help third world countries get access to this technology.  Smiley

Yes. It would require the approval of the government for sure, before it becomes widely used and accepted as a means of self-autonomous transportation. The effectiveness and security that the blockchain provides, would makes this revolutionary and perhaps governments would use this for their own benefit. In the future, there could exist the possibility of jobs paying you in digital currencies, where physical fiat currency would no longer exist, thus serving as a medium of exchange between you and your car, by depositing that digital token or currency within the car's wallet.

Roll Eyes
The initial idea and concept is kind of ok, however, the biggest thing I can see here is that it is incredibly idealistic and frankly doesn't really have any substance as to how something like that would really work. The blockchain just records transactions and everything that happens within Bitcoin, it's not like it can go and make cars refuel themselves or whatever.

I really don't see how something like this would work.
