Pci Extender/riser Problem

Hi Guys,

I have a problem, because I recently bought a PCI riser/extender card and now I want to attach a second graphic card to my PC. But when I attached the Pci riser card with a graphic card I get a black screen with no signal.

Do you have any solutions?

Could you provide alittle more info? Are you getting video from the first gpu still? your on windows 10 ? is the first gpu on pce-e 1 and second on gpu 2? Does your motherboard have onboard video? are the fans spinning on gpu1 and or gpu2?

I am using Windows 10 and the fans are spinning on both cards. I don´t get a signal from the graphic cards so it doesnt care to which GPU I connect the hdmi cable or DVI cable.
My first GPU is attached to my motherboard´s pcie x16 slot. I already tried to only connect the pci riser so i disconnected my first GPU and only connected my Pci riser but I had the same problem.
My motherboard has onboard video.

You were getting video from just 1 gpu when you had no risers?
Enable the onboard video in the bios or just see if the onboard is outputting video while the gpu's are connectted. Are your gpu's modded and if so have you patched the drivers to bypass gpu bios signature check?

Yes I get video from 1 GPU without the riser. When I instert the second GPU directly on the mainboard both GPUs work.
My GPUs aren´t modded should I do this?
I get a signal of the onboard GPU when I attach the riser, but my PC doesn´t even recognize my other GPUs in the device manager, when the riser is connected.

Deactivate Onboard video in Mainboard Bios and check that the power plugin for the Riser (usually Molex) fits correctly.

The fans are spining and since the fans are powered from the usb risers that is fine. I know the gpu's are not showing in device manager. Are there unknown devices showing?  You should not mod atleast until you have the gpu's showing in device manager. Try starting the pc with just the risers attached. No gpu's in the riser. Sometimes they need to install first.

I "deactivated" the onbaord ( I can only set the priority) but didn´t helped the power plugin fits correct.
I tried to start my pc with just the riser attached without a gpu in the riser but nothing is better( I don´t get a signal of my main gpu and nothing shows up in the device manager :-( )

Do you have enough power available to run the card? What  card/power supply are you using? Did you install the drivers?

Are you using any splitters or plug adapters?

Can you show us pictures/screenshots?

If the card is bad, incompatible, doesn't have drivers or lacks proper power then it won't show up.

Have you tried turning it off and then on again?

Will the card show up if you don't use the riser?

Yes I defenetly have enough power I already conncected the PCI riser to a spererate power supply.
My first GPU is a AMD Radeon R7 370 my second one is a Nvidia Quadro FX 3800 I already tryed it with a Nvidia quatro FX 1700
No I don´t use any splitters or adapters.
I restarted my Pc multible times.

I have no special drivers installed for the riser because I thought you don´t need any drivers for the PCI riser, is this right?

What kind of riser ? USB? or just the grey ribbon extending the pcie slot ? what king of powersupply for the riser : molex ? sata ? pcie ?
It could be faulty ...

It´s a PCI-E 1x to pcie 16x riser, the one you can the in the second image. The power supply is molex already tried it with a different power supply.

2 things...The riser has to be powered by the same PSU as the card...And your PSUs have to be connected with an add2psu connector thing. Otherwise they'll turn on at different times and the card won't register.

I have 16 GPUS connected to 3 Motherboards via USB raises.
All GPU's are powered by 2 Server Power Supply's and the Motherboard (3 of them) and PCI-E risers are powered each by their own Power Supply's.

Is there maybe a criterion for which I have to look for when I want to buy myself a new mainboard or is there a list of the mainboards supporting the PCI riser? :-)

AFAIK all mainboards will support riser. All pci-e 16 slots will support 1x,2x,4x,8x,or 16x devices.When you connect a gpu to a riser it is always at 1x unless it is a 16x ribbon. I have used about 10 different mb and they all work fine.
Which motherboard do you have? Really it should just work. Especially if the fans are spinning. Have you tried to install the amd drivers? These are 470 or 480's. I have not experience on older gpu's sry.

Actually I use server psu to power the gpu and atx to power motherboard and risers. I always power the server psu first and then turn on the motherboard. You can for testing just power the mb and risers from atx. The fans will spin but the cards will not register because they are not powered except the fans.
