When people talking about numbers of domain letters, it is totally reasonable and sensible to ignore the letters after the dot. So, it is clearly not a three letters domain. I think it is you who should go to buy glasses, even misspelling the word 'character'.

You are absolutely right. These domains are called three character domains and not three letter domains. I think that's what OP meant. It's clearly a mistake. No big deal.

edit:  Three characters Domain name, but it doesn't change the value of this domain because the name with fewer characters are easier to remember.
