Well my friend, bitcoin is not a curse at all. Its the need of the digital world to make a digital currency and bitcoin is the best one to fill in the space for digital currency. It is a real blessing for all of us and making us free from the government control and taxes.

Everything has both positive and negative impacts on society and same goes for bitcoin. Both criminals and normal people are using bitcoin for both good and bad things. Actually bitcoin have very good future because it give people full control over their wealth which they can use whenever they want without being noticed by others/authority.

How can BitCoin be a curse? I don't think its anything bad at all, its a digital currency and a very good one too, the decentralization makes it quite powerful, and as the digital world is expanding every minute, it is a necessity. Especially the technology of it(a digital currency). So it was the need of the hour, and gladly someone or some people made it, and hopefully it will keep growing and remain a stable currency for a long time.

there is always good side and bad side to everything. and bitcoin is no exception. the bad can be the little anonymity that bitcoin offers and opens up some small ways for some illegal activities.
but the good is always a lot more. the good of bitcoin is the decentralization in my opinion and the fact that it opens up a whole new technology for the world, and we can see banks and lots of others are adopting the technology already.

To my point of view in the near future will go to a cashless world. Banks want people use mobile/web banking and credit/debit cards because there are more than 2 billions of people worldwide without bank account. But all of these payments are fiat too. So for everyone wants to be the bank and the customer at the same time that is, free for any bank strings attached then bitcoin is the only way which total market cap is more than 20 billions of dollars

Definitely it's a boon not boob op lol, Bitcoin has helped each of us to save lot of money and also freed us up from centralized culture, by giving us the decentralised features that got us rid of the tax and government agencies always trying to feed on our money. It has personally helped me achieve so many of my life goals which would have been literally impossible had Bitcoins not had not come. Now that paypal, is messing up Bitcoin is literally a boon in all the aspects of life. It's the best thing that has happened to humanity.

misuse their sites to extort money from people using their services... and Bitcoin stops that, because these sites do not have your credit card

Every new technology can be used for both betterment of society or for the selfishness of some individuals. Printing press allowed for both the Bible and the Decameron to be mass-produced, for example. For me though, most of the benefits of bitcoins outweigh the few disadvantages. Most of the bad press it's getting is due to anonymity being exploited by ransomware, scammers and exchange hackers. I've seen instances where they manage to track them down so I believe it's possible to prevent these abuses while still maintaining what bitcoin was originally made for - financial independence.

First off i am not sure that your definition of bitcoin is correct.  Bitcoin is a decentralised digital cryptocurrency, trust me there is a difference.  and actually the currency is only 1 app that Bitcoin allows.  The current value of bitcoin is around the $20 billion dollar mark.  And the effects of bitcoin are almost totally positive,  one negative may be that of the amount of electricity used to secure the network.  which is absolutely vital by the way and is probably costing much less than running the mainstream banking system. However some people my choose to use it negatively.

This bitcoin nowadays is been used by many users, yes, that is right. But mostly not as a alternative currency, but an asset. Of course it bring positive and negative to the society, in time bitcoin will be the reason why people kill other people. At the positive way we can send it everytime we needed and no hassles. This thread is kind of pointless, because all people who like Bitcoin enough to be on this Bitcoin forum are pretty unlikely to think Bitcoin is a curse on society.  It does cause temporary issues, such as the high power usage, but there isn't a lack of power, it's just that renewables are not used enough, and since Bitcoin mining is barely profitable in Western countries without renewable energy, it creates an incentive, with state backing, to use it.

I think Bitcoin is a boon, it gives a new set of opportunities, new set of option of money transfers and it is really far from the government manipulation since it is decentralized (that is if it is used as peer to peer and not using any 3rd party exchange for a transaction.).  Another thing is, those who are not qualified for a bank account can now enjoy the benefits from Bitcoin in transferring money and doing transactions online.

This is a quite good topic to debate on.
We can take Bitcoins in both a positive and a negative way.
Bitcoin has gained a lot of acceptance among people in past couple of years.
We can see that by Just seeing its price rise.
Many may consider it as a cuse and also many may consider it as a boon.
They may consider it boon because it is-
1) Decentralised
2) It is a form of investment.
3) It is easy to use and help us save our privacy.
They may consider it as a curse -
1) It is Decentralised.
2) It can be used as a form of gamble etc .
3) there is no proper governing authority.
4) it's creator is an aynonamus person.

So it's is upto you and the way you use bitcoins,
It's both a curse and a boon.

I think its an a great thing that's becoming increasingly popular especially in the last year or so. I think a lot of people who are techy are scared by it an its possibilities and what it means for local economies.
But, it was something that's needed in today's world where everything is becoming digital.  It is frequently used for illegal activity, which is giving it a bit of a bad rep. So other than that, definitely a good thing.

The positive thing about Bitcoin is the fact that it gives people a alternative technology to choose from. Previously most people only used centralized services and they did not know how bad centralized control is, but since the introduction of Bitcoin, people can now see that things can be done differently and much better than before.

We will have to see, if this will be embraced and tolerated by the governments. ^hmmmmmm^
