Altcoin is the name that coins that are not bitcoin receive. So any cryptocurrency that is not bitcoin, is an altcoin. Alt means alternative I guess. All coins that are not bitcoin are alternatives to bitcoin.

To create your own altcoin, you need to know how to program, or you need to pay someone that knows how to do it for you. I think there are some "altcoin generator" softwares that need no programming skills and you can create altcoins very easily, but with very limited options, and of course, it will be another pump and dump since it does not provide anything new.

There is some fee of about 700$ which you have to pay to make an altcoin. Not only this, you either need to be a developer or you need to hire someone to be a developer. The problem with this is that you will need to pay him continuously as he works on updates for the coin. If you want a unique coin with new features, it would be even harder, especially if you are the developer.

No you are getting It wrong as bitcoin was the first and only idea of crypto currencies so it is considered as the main while others are made after the success of bitcoin so they are in general named as altcoin.
Why do you even want to start your own altcoin it's mostly useless as most of the features you will provide is already out there.

Well it's better to stop if they are planning to do so. I hope that if they are planning it, I don' want to come up to the point that they will be able to get a lot of investors.

All think , if they create a altcoin , they can make easy money.Nowadays everyday new altcoins are coming to the market promising many new different features to scam the people. An alt coin is a cryptocurrency that is not bitcoin. Bitcoin may be considered as the mother of all cryptocurrencies and all other crypto are considered as altcoins. If you don't even understand what an altcoin is, I don't even think that you should be consider making an altcoin of your own. Making another useless altcoin will not better this world, unless you have some technical knowledge and you have a unique idea that will make a better coin than bitcoin (not saying it is the best right now, but it's unbeatable in terms of number of users).

I didn't know much what is the benefits of altcoins in bitcoins but the only thing i know is altcoins is the alternative coins for the bitcoins so if the bitcoin price will getting higher or PUMPED it affects the altcoins price the price of the altcoins will get lower or DUMPED 
And if you want to make an alternative coin you will need a big investment and you need to know how to program or to mine it but it's worth because you can earn a huge profit if your coin will become successful
