I believe. For one, 6 of the top 10 crypto assets in market cap right now are built on ethereum https://coinmarketcap.com/assets/Also this info about ICOs on ethereum seems promising https://youtu.be/DODTjUe6XfE?t=10m50s As well as the ethereum alliance announced last week. I'm just a noob though so don't take my word for it. I'm sure someone smarter than me will chime in with better analysis.

if this was a topic that i saw 1 or 2 days ago i would have said it is now in a bubble and will pop soon and price will slowly crawl back down to 0.01 and below exactly like the previous pumps in ethereum.
but ever since the bitcoin price dip because of the massive scale FUD i am going to change my answer to "it may go higher from 0.015BTC to 0.02BTC even" because ethereum is known to use opportunities like this to put some wood in the FUD fire and take advantage of the situation and pump real hard.
it wouldn't be the first time either. remember last year's massive scale FUD around $400-$500 bitcoin price? the same story is being repeated.
p.s. this topic belongs to altcoin speculation board.
|
Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip. Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

Ethereum has a use in the market as a platform for building from, so it is a "thing" for a lot of people. If you're building a platform off the technology of blockchain, it seems a good place to start. For the next big thing, I would look at up and comers that are doing something new.

I see that ether has more then doubled in value over the past few months. There have been a few bumps but the overall value is still on the uptrend.
Still not a good reference to consider that Ether will be the next big thing. Clearly, manipulation brought this coin to light the crypto arena and not because of the massive support from different person in the community. There are news articles on how big businesses are utilizing the ethereum platform, and there are even those saying that it will soon be the world's block chain of choice.
Just let the news chipped in and see how will community will react.
My question is, does anyone believe all of this?
People have different view about ETH, so basically there is a believer, non believer and critics. Lots of speculations you can also see at different crypto related forums.
Is ether really poised to explode like bitcoin did, or is this all just hype from big business to sell the idea?
As of now, I see no.

I don't but I own some just in case. I do and keep some as well. Why not to believe in it? Eth definitely doesn't look like a shitty coin. And perhaps there is some "pump" but without "dump". It is supported by IBM and Microsoft, but it ain't a btc clone and it does open some opportunities closed to bitcoin. I believe it can become one of the best coins

Of course not.. these are just greedy idiots. I made a poll not long ago that had 71% of the votes say so too. So these guys here don't even try and hide it either. ETH is an ICO pyramid / ponzi scheme.

Also, does the value of ether (the currency) really coincide with the success of ethereum (the platform)?
While ETH is good you must not forget that is an alt and like any alts it could disappear, in my opinion the only coin worth holding over long periods of time is bitcoin so don’t fall for the hype.

yep. quite possible. it's also quite possible it'll go up in smoke when some new exploitation is found. no doubt it's gonna give birth to alot of cool stuff but there'll be more craziness along the way.
right now in my mind it's simply the biggest pump coin out there. i'd take a bunch more convincing to change my mind.

nah, Dash has been bigger pump than ether but since ether is a newer pump with a lot more advertising than Dash it seems bigger and more often. and i agree that it opened up some room for many cool stuff but it is a shame that this coin is centralized and manipulated to the maximum possible manipulation. and that will kill it in the long run and whales don't even care, they will drag along and make millions while small traders lose their money and then they leave for another pump project and leave ether to the dust.

It is because it is the biggest platform that allows these assets to be build on. It is a self fulfilling prophecy that resulted from an excellent marketing campaign. As long as crypto remains speculative, ethereum is going to do well.
