let's try to build up a good forum at http://BitForum.org

this forum here sucks .. i cant even respond to threads anywhere but here. What is the point?  I read a thread I'm interested in, and I can't respond.  And I have 4hrs+ and more than 5 posts.

LAME!

could you imagine how much it would suck if everyone who signed up could right away post everywhere?  I think its a good idea... read up, spend time here first.

Forums do this to avoid bot accounts and initiate you into the forum community.

That way someone can't make an account in 5 minutes and start spamming arguments to what you say. If the Newbie restriction bugs you that much, you have a lot of forums you'll hate.

Be done with this site then and move on to your other options (forums that will have endless links to this one).  You must have a lot of important things to say that you are so angry you are not heard untill after 4 hours of forum time and 5 posts!

The newbie restrictions are indeed archaic, there are better ways to handle spammers and newbies, like reputation systems, Ripple style trust (if your friend spams, you get banned too!), pay-per-account, etc. Theymos already claims he's working on a replacement that will eliminate the need for the newbie jail. In the meantime, try http://reddit.com/r/Bitcoin as that's where actual conversation happens.

(if your friend spams, you get banned too!)

That's actually how the Newgrounds Art portal works; you have to get recruited by another artist, and if you fuck up, the entire chain gets pulled from being able to post onto the portal.  I like it a lot, TBH Grin  It filters out all the newbie artwork and leaves the good stuff.

The cron job on the server will probably run soon. I suggest logging out and back in again.

Maybe so, but there's no point in complaining if you want to participate in the forums.

It's the only explanation for how people could spend so much time trolling.
