Newbie Rig Setup Questions

Hey Guys
I know this has been asked a thousand times but i'm overwhelmed with the amount of info out there. I would like to take a gamble with bitcoin mining and my primary goal is to cover my costs and if i dont like it to have atleast a decent gaming PC at the end
Money is not a problem really, i just want to have a decent bitcoin rig and be able to convert it to a excellent gaming rig if it doesnt work out.
So what are your thoughts on the following setup?
Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7970 Windforce 3X 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card 323.99x2 or x3
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD5 AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard 141.98
AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8350 Black Edition 4.00GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail 161.99
Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10) 99.95
Corsair Professional Series HX+ 1050W '80+ Gold' Modular Power Supply (CP-9020033-UK) 170
I already have a case, hd and cooling sorted.
Id really appreciate any helpful thoughts or suggestions. Thanks in advanced.
Regards

I understand that a PC is no longer sufficient to economically mine Bitcoins.

But not for ALT! Plus you can use the rig to game!
I have very little experience but I would suggest putting thought into the cooling, esp if you're going to use 3 cards. I only thought about noise and power draw when I was building mine and it resulted in a lot of extra purchases later on.

Hi,
I'm the newbie of newbie's.
If the PC is no longer adequate for mining, what set-up is?
Can you point me to a link dedicated to the intro of building mining rigs.
Thanks so much!

While still in their infancy, there are ASIC miners coming onto the bitcoin network, both public and private. A good place to start is a google search for ASIC Miner. Also check this out:

I'm hoping to score some ASIC love for Bitcoin, and when, or maybe if, that happens, then I'll switch my computer to Litecoin.

I would personally go with a LGA1155 Intel board unless you're biased against Intel. If you get a good one, you can start with a Celeron for @$50, and later move up to a quad-core if you're into gaming that much.
Also, where are you getting the Radeons for $329? Best price I could find on them was $399 or so, paid $409 for mine. Although I hear 7950's are the best power/price right now.

Wow guys, over a year later I see this!
Thank you for your responses!
It would of been interesting to have purchased a PC and GPU mined especially right before Bitcoin exploded at $1,000 in December of 2013 - although honestly MtGox might of wiped me out.
I've purchased a few ASICs last month, SHA ant Scypt ones and really like the performance.
The prices are much more reasonable than they would of been in late 2013/early 2014.
It may be too late, but I am interesting in eventually trying out the, for now, non ASIC mining alt currencies like Vert coin and such.

Wait so its still good to use PC for alt coins? Just want to be sure here... I heard its not.

depends what coin you want to mine... normal scypt coins, there is no point now with the Asics... but vert etc and some others are Asic resistant so good to go...
i still have one gpu rig churning away, but rest have been sold and i use Asics for the rest

I mean, it mightn't be much, but if you're using JUST for mining, you might consider find someone who got this i5, and offer a trade .

Sana8410.
You suggest I use a i5 processor to mine coins that use a Scrypt N or X11 alto?
Any particular reason you suggested the i5 processor?
Is it a good choice for its price/performance?
And yes, Id prefer a prebuilt & configured rig as I haven't built a desktop rig since 2006.
So, I dont have endless time anymore to get up to speed experimenting from ground zero.
Thanks for any suggestions.

90% of the alt coins are actually pump and dump coin. It is kind of risky to get into this kind of coins. Their value can suddenly crash. And I thought GPU mining arent suppose to use much of the processsor? Maybe only SHA256..

Consider purchasing gridseeds. They use less power consumption and less price than gpu.

I heard that some of the USB and some other types to ASIC died easily. Not sure about their new product though. Consider about getting knc titan.(scrypt miner)

Better buy coins than mining rigs because when KNC miner will be released ,difficulty is going to sky rocket . Current batch of scrypt miners are not profitable either unless prices are reduced considerably.

You should go with Litecoin if you want to use GPU power. You would make a complete loss on Bitcoin.
