I think I found two great videos on youtube on the dos and don'ts of password creation.  A real must watch. I encourage everyone to watch these and then consider if your passwords are really safe.

  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7U-RbOKanYs  Also  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NjQ9b3pgIg

If you don't trust my link the video is called: "Password Cracking - Computerphile" also "Password Choice - Computerphile "

If you know of a better video on password creation plz post it.

Edit: would also like to recommend everyone watch "How NOT to Store Passwords! - Computerphile" and "Security of Data on Disk - Computerphile"

I just watched the video that you provided. It is very educational and provided me good knowledge about password cracking. I know that we should be very careful in creating passwords and making it very hard to crack is a top priority but I didn't know that with just the use of 4 hi-end Nvidia graphics cards, passwords of million of people can be cracked in just a few seconds. It is an eye-opener for me. I will re-evaluate the status of my passwords because of this video. Thanks man for posting this up.  Cheesy

The amount of entropy storeable inside the human mind is to limited. You are well advised to carry some sort of jewellery / ornament with you that keeps the secrets. Which book has that been taken from? I am remembering Stephenson's "Cryptonomicon" but it has been another one of his books.

The best way is to randomly generate your private keys (paper wallet etc) so that even the owner can not remember. This will not have the problem of having unsecure addresses, like those generated using brainwallet.

Just use a password generator, select a huge password with lots of symbols capitals numbers and you are good ! for now at least... because there is the golden rule saying what it locked it can be unlocked,

No one gonna share their password to anyone. If you do a mistake like keeping hard password and logging in to the site same like blockchain other wallet site means also your funds will be taken out by hackers. Please make proper log in attempt and keep safe private key and don't share your DAT file of tour wallet this enough to be safe.

When you see the number of people here who get their bitcointalk account hacked, it makes me wonder how they deal with their bitcoin activities, online banking ect... A weak password is surely the main reason, but it's not hard to make a strong password and of course not use the same with every site

People don't take the security seriously as they should and that is the reason for so many hacked accounts and wallets, malware infections and other security breaches. But some of them are not well informed how important is to protect your self so this forum could also be the place to raise awarness.

I think what is always underestimated when it comes to setting passwords, though, is the importance of having different passwords for different services.  Most people have passwords in hundreds of different things, and if your password for a less secure service is the same as your password for a more secure service, it doesn't only matter what that password is - the hacker is going to hack the less secure service, find your password and use it to get into your account on the more secure service.

See I don't think you should worry so much.
I insist you to use block chain wallet.
It is damn secure .
I use it mostly in my phone and due to safety reasons,
It doesn't even allow me to take even screenshot,
Of any of the content present in the app.
I.e when the app is open.
Talking about password ,
When I go to settings and select reset password,
They show the message that-
" Our servers have not saved your password"
So even if someone hacks the servers of block chain,
He can never know the password of our wallet.

This reminds me that I should change the passwords on my bitcoin wallets. Though it has a 2fa security and it is very long but since there are only letters in it I guess the hackers could easily hack it. My wallets are always at zero balance but if I dont place a good password on it and suddenly somebody send me a good amount of btc then that would be trouble. Next time when I will make or generate a wallet I will make sure that even I will make it very complicated.

First of all passwords must be stored in some place no matter what and second bitcoin private keys are entirely different than our websites passwords.
What I want to know is the mechanism where you provide a private key for an address how many times per second could you try a private key to see if it's the right one? if we could limit those attempts somehow that might eliminate the brute force and cracking which depends on try and errors.
I also like the idea of playing music as your password but scientists even doubt if some day human brain might get hacked.

I use cryptocurrencies's addresses as passwords and save each one with a hint of which service it belongs to and put them on a text file then create a zip file with a strong password and cuut and paste it into a usb stick.

Your videos are very helpful regarding in making safe passwords for your account and I think it is impormative but it is not that necessary for other users, maybe the newbies would see this as very helpful for them, but even if you had a bad password for your account I think to keep your account safe from hackers is to change password more often.

Maybe it is true, but not all the people can unlocked those things which are locked, and using password Generator is not that safe also because there is a possibility that you might forgot the password because of too much characters, numbers, signs, and symbols combined.

So, if you are going to use this password generator, you must save your password, for you to have a backup in case that you forgot it. Though, I always prefer creating my own password, for me to easily remember it and can't forget that easily.

If you are able to generate a random password on your own and if you could note that down then it is good and fine and it is not that easy to unlock unless and until you do something dumb.Your bitcoin passwords have to be safe and make sure your system that contain a huge number of coins are offline and i do prefer it as i do not trust any other method to store my coins.

No one gonna share their password to anyone. Please make proper log in attempt and keep safe private key and don't share your DAT file of tour wallet this enough to be safe.

Also using 2FA in your online wallet whatever it is where you are storing your bitcoin is also a good idea beside on using private key, and when it comes to professional hackers, there is no such thing as SAFE PASSWORD, I remember the hacking that happened in the blockchain way back 2015, where hundred of millions dollars worth of bitcoin was stolen, correct me if I am wrong.

So, there is no safe password to be honest, all we have to do is to secure our accounts and check it daily to be sure that no one is using it or already know our password.

True, 2FA is a must if you want your Bitcoins to be okay, especially on online wallets which can be compromised at any time.  If you have a password and your login isn't going through a device that you've got near you, your safety is slightly compromised.  Good passwords do help but they're not the magic solution to everything.

Well actually, password is so secured nowadays, you need to have an advance mechanics to unlock or to break passwords. But since password is so secured already, we can no longer break or breach passwords by just using crackers online. Compare it to bitcoin, you cannot hack bitcoin accounts because bitcoin is so secured already.

The way I see it, with all these Vault 7 exploits and backdoors in Cloudflare... no PASSWORD will be safe. You can have the strongest password,

and people will still spoof the site or use key loggers or swap sims to hijack the 2FA. The site should be the strongest point, but it turns out these

sites are the weakest link. Bitcoin used without 3rd parties are still the recommended way to use Bitcoin.  Wink
