WHAT IS SCARAB?The world's first cryptocurrency artist collective that's working to create the enigma known as SCARAB and simultaneously the first cryptocurrency as art in and of itself (read about that here). The art doesn't need the community to exist and the community doesn't need the art to exist but together a beautiful symbiosis of identity and art blossom.
More about the identity:SCARAB is a mass multi-user persona linked to a decentralized artist collective through a cryptocurrency token. What this means is that SCARAB is an artist like Picasso, Warhol, or Davinci but whose works are created by the efforts of a group of artists together and whose gallery showings are curated by the community members through voting. In order for the process to work members must hold a Scarab Token in a linked account so that they can vote. While SCARAB may be an imagined and digital entity its works are quite real and authentic.
WHAT IS THE GOAL?Our unified goal is to create an artwork and artist identity called SCARAB and promote this throughout the world.
By collaborating efforts into a single cause, all of our members, which are anyone that holds a single Scarab Token, can benefit from SCARAB's fame and success. Ultimately this is an identity experiment of art and the individual.
WHAT IS A BLOCKCHAIN?A Blockchain is a distributed public ledger that's decentralized and contains all transactions that have ever been executed. It is constantly growing as 'completed' blocks are added to it with a new set of recordings. The blocks are added to the blockchain in a linear, chronological order. All of The Scarab Experiment's transactions are recorded in the Bitcoin blockchain and available for public review at anytime, creating a transparent and secure system that doesn't need to depend on trust of any individual or organization.
HOW DOES SCARAB CREATE A WORK OF ART?SCARAB creates a work of art through an algorithmic imaging method process for every 1,000 artworks submitted.
Using this process each artwork is integrated with the artwork submitted before it and every thousandth submission ends the cycle by sending the image out for fabrication producing a single artwork of SCARAB. Through this process the artworks become unrecognizable, slowly morphing into a distinctly SCARAB work of art. To maintain SCARAB's anonymity no single artist will be given credit for their work but a reward of one Scarab Token is given to each artist' submission.
This process will happen only 50 times thereby limiting SCARAB's art produced to a quantity of 50 works of art. Each official SCARAB artwork will be issued a separate ScarabART Token which are used for authentication by locking that work's attribution within a blockchain to assure its uniqueness.
WHAT VALUE IS THERE IN BEING ANONYMOUS?SCARAB artwork offers an intrinsic value because no one knows who really created the artwork, each work could have been made by "Joe" down the street or an artist that's already famous. By not knowing who created the work all of SCARAB's work can be seen as both extremely valuable and worthless at the same time. This creates an intriguing play on what we value as art and why. Does the identity of the artwork's creator effect the way in which the art is received?
WHAT DOES THE ORIGINAL ARTISTS GET FOR THEIR WORK? Every artwork submitted receives 1 Scarab Token from the 50,000 tokens reserved for artists, that's .001% of the total supply per artwork. The artwork then goes through the imaging method process and becomes unrecognizable by the end.
DOES THE ORIGINAL ARTIST LOSE THE RIGHTS TO THEIR WORK?No! The artist retains all rights but also grants The Scarab Experiment community the right to use the image in its imaging process to create a new work of art. No rights are given for the new work of art other than the tokens stated above. The original image submitted, as well as the generated art, may be used for promotions, shows, prints etc. The final processed artwork becomes the sole property of The Scarab Experiment.
WHAT ARE SCARAB TOKENS?Scarab Tokens are assets created through CounterParty that act as a means for a transparent membership into the community of The Scarab Experiment. Being in the community you become a part of SCARAB.
SCARAB is split into only 100,000 whole tokens (They can't be divided) making each token .001% of all Scarab Tokens and limiting the total membership allowed to 100,000 individuals. In reality there will be less than 100,000 members because individuals can hold as many Tokens as they like. By holding a Scarab Token the system is able to verify your membership and allow you to vote for inclusion in the experiment. All value collected through the sale of memberships or SCARAB art is used to support the project and boost community participation in various ways.
WHO CAN BECOME SCARAB?Anyone, artists submit artwork and non-artist representatives help with support.
WHY BECOME SCARAB?For Artists, becoming a part of SCARAB can offer an opportunity to have your work be part of something historical, a first of its kind Artist. SCARAB is an artist as persona formed through community which removes the individual identity and creates a type of artist that can no longer be seen as a singular being.
For Individuals, Collectors and Supporters becoming part of SCARAB can offer a chance to be a part of something new and groundbreaking. You will support artists and the arts in a wholly knew process that could eventually revolutionize how we see artists and art.
HOW DO YOU BECOME SCARAB?You become SCARAB by participating in the community through making artwork for submission and/or by voting. To be able to participate and become a part of the community you'll need to hold at least one Scarab Token. Voting is used to determine major aspects of The Scarab Experiment.
