Mainstream adaption can take anywhere between 5-30 years.

Bitcoin isn't very old. It has a ways to go.

It's a 100% brand new technology and most people don't know how to feel about it.

In contrast, when the iPhone 5 released, almost everybody in the world knew what an iPhone was, so everyone's gonna know what an iPhone 5 is, what it's going to do (and presumably do it better than iPhone 4), etc.

Since Bitcoin is the first of its kind, expect it to take a while.  It took several years for the Internet to catch on, and now it's a technology we can hardly live without.
