The older 1150 boards work fine but resale is going to be near zero in the next few years so its a better idea to use newer proccessors and boards for newer builds as long as the prices are not
to bad.  I am compling a new list of all the 1151 boards and what needs to be done if anything to have them support 6+ gpu and 55 watt Kaby Lake CUPs.
if you are adding a board to this list add a link to where it can be purchased from as well as what you had to do to get 6 GPU.
No speculation please only add boards that you KNOW work with 6+

1)
supports 7 GPU out of the box ,flawless board has wi fi as well dual lan - pricy
*to support 6GPU*
>nothing works out the box default settings and bios.
>might need bios update to support Kaby Lake.
>tested with a mix of RX 470/480 , R9 Nano
>OS windows 10
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4S844G6305

2)
supports 7 , with max  ,  really flakey board , some work some don't - DO NOT RECOMEND this one.
*to support 6GPU*
>update bios using older skylarke CPU
>TOLUD setting 3.5 and PCI-E to gen1 or gen 2
>tested with a mix of RX 470/480 , R9 Nano
>OS windows 10

3)

Working with 6 GPU / win10
** still need info on what was done to get it to work , will confirm next week

Love this idea.   The older boards are getting harder to find and more expensive too!

Would be a good idea to list the model number and manufacturer of the board here too.  Links might get outdated.

Also, what OS and GPUS you tested it with.

I second that.

So for what the $450 the board you link costs, plus $50 for CPU and another $50 for memory, $550 total (low cost miner build components) you could build 3X the typical boards.

3X Biostar TB85 ($65 ea) $195
3x 1150 CPU Celeron ($50 ea) $150
3x DDR3 RAM ($50 ea) $150

For $495 you have 3 complete platforms for which to build three 6X gpu rigs for 18 GPUs total for less than the cost of one that will only support 7X. Resale value or not, you can see which option is the better value for trying to ROI on your rig.

With that said, I do like the idea of a list for cost efficient 1151 mobos that can be used for mining, as one day the supply of 1150 processors for sale will be drying up. It is already starting to get hard to find decent priced ones on New Egg.

Except you can't because the Booster TB85 is out of stock at Amazon and NewEgg.  Which is not surprising since it's 2 generations old at this point.

That's the purpose of this thread-- to find Z170 or Z270 boards that can drive 6GPUs.

That's the purpose of this thread-- to find Z170 or Z270 boards that can drive 6GPUs.

If you read my whole post at the bottom I did say I thought the thread was a good idea as replacements are indeed needed. Also I mentioned the drying up of the 1150 series processor which will probably be the bigger death blow to the old school builds.

I just do not think we all need to praise $450 board nominations as that replacement though, at that price it is totally nonviable for a mining rig. The comparison I made was to show what ballpark the new board should ideally be in to compared with builds we are used to.

So once some nominations start appearing that are sub $100, or at least under $150, then we can all cheer and move on. The upcoming Biostar TB250 may be a start depending upon its retail price, but from the looks of it I am sure it will be closer to the $100 range than $450. http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=865

I got Quoted about $100 for it, and availability is promised by first week April (albeit in Asia, dunno about NA).
