No it is controlled and owned by the miners and owners of the coin.

There originator is anonymous, but there is a large group of volunteers, most notably the developers who make decisions.

The network is always controlled by what 51% of the network agrees on.

bitcoin.org, bitcointalk.org, mtgox.com, bitcoinfoundation.org - all these sites are controlled by the same people, so Bitcoin is controlled but behind the scene. Don't believe anyone who says Bitcoin is not controlled; read this forum, use ur brain and u will likely come to the same conclusion as I did.

Bitcoin is open source.

You are as welcome to take the code and modify it and convince others to use your code as anyone else.  The fact that a few volunteers happen to have decided for themselves to get involved and associate with each other in no way prevents you from registering your own website for publishing your own versions of the code and running your own discussion forum.

The problem isn't that there is a small subset of people who "have control" of bitcoin, the problem is that there is only a small subset of people who are willing to put any effort into it.
