I'm looking for a dark, crisp, sleek, and professional logo for my indie game development business. The company name is Aphotic Pixels.
Details
-Must be in three sizes (pixels): 25-50, 75-100, 300-400.
-Must have the company name in the image.
-Must be in .png format.
-Should be dark, use a black and white color scheme.
Please submit your photos before April 26. The winner will receive ฿0.10.

A. This should be in services B. Why not simply contract a designer? There's plenty on this site. C. I presume this is a contest. You should post the rules for this contest, for example, whether or not you're required to choose a winner, and clearly define in the OP that you're not looking for a designer, but looking for free work to choose from. D. Are you aware of spec work? |

Sorry, I said details instead of rules; but you get the idea. I did look at some designers, and I was considering doing business with one; but I'm sure there are a lot of creative people here that might have a better idea or perspective. Cheers! |

The thing is, you're asking for work which you have no intention to pay for (unless you happen to like it.) This is assuming artists are not like regular workers, in which artists should or should not be paid based on the employer's discretion. I wouldn't recommend any designer fall prey to such a method, unless you state clearly that you must pay at least one artist in this contest for their work, and that all artwork created will remain under the copyright of the artist or at their discretion.
I recommend, instead of holding a contest, holding an auction, where you start the bidding at, say, 1 BTC, and then designers bid lower and lower based on how much they'd like the job. No guarantee you'll get any takers, but, I don't think you should expect professional work for .1 BTC. Logos take time to create, and work without the promise of pay really isn't worth the trouble for any professional.

Yes, exactly this. Even Vircurex was offering 2 BTC a little while ago for their logo competition. A realistic offer would be about 3BTC, I would not even bother copy/pasting an old logo for BTC0.10. I guess some will apply considering people even use those "giveway" sites that send like BTC0.0000234 lol. |
