===OPERATION SHOCK AND AWE

===Date: Monday 2013-04-22

===Start time of event: 15:30 UTC

===Goal: Bring bitcoin price < $30 US dollars

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1cu4ck/ridiculous_ddos_operation_set_up_for_monday/

DDOS prevention is pretty limited these days, I wish there were better solutions than cloudlfare, they do not seem to be cutting it.

I am worried that once my site is up I will have to deal with the same stuff and am not sure how to handle DDOS.

First seastead company actually selling sea homes: Ocean Builders https://ocean.builders  Of course we accept bitcoin.

Thanks for posting this. As with most things on the internet I question its authenticity. How did you find out about it?

Most likely fake. Nobody is planning things like that without using some other form of communication like encryption.

Completely likely to be just some kid who thinks posting stupid stuff is fun. AKA most of 4chan.

Saw it on another thread, checked the reditt to grab the meat of it.

I believe that Mt. Gox uses Prolexic for DDoS mitigation. The Prolexic site appears to target large enterprise customers, e.g. banks.

I am getting the cloudflare page when they are down, though.

Obviously fake.

I certainly wouldn't mind a drop to 30, cheap coins, but this whole pump-bigdump-panicsell-lag-ddos-morelag-morepanicsell-selleverythingatmarket fiasco gets old. People are getting desensitized, it's just not FUN anymore, seeing a huge drop every time Gox has more than 30 seconds lag.

7 hours til supposed event?

I don't think anything will happen; the only contingency that hasn't been addressed is what if other people who actually believe this sell in anticipation and the price drops anyway as a result?

I'll put a ladder all the way down just in case.
I would not mind it dropping temporarily, I got fiat pending damn it.

I'm mainly interested on its effect on litecoins though ^.^

If it drops: I will buy.
If it doesn't drop: I will continue to hold.

This news is both obviously fake, and good for anyone looking to buy.

BTC price manipulation will be very hard as long as short selling is not available for fiat money. Once you allow BTC short selling with paper, you simply send an invitation to manipulator. Panic-selling or insider selling is different (two weeks ago we saw that kind of selling pressure). Now BTC markets returning back to normal volatility. I expect range-bound markets for at least 3 to 6 months. Four digits BTC is quite possible after this normalization process.

Looking to buy a verified betfair account with escrow.

I think that's the idea. "Oop... I released this top secret info... (in hopes that everyone would trade on it)"

Well then you might be disappointed. During the crash from $2xx to $60, litecoins also lost more than 50% of their value, dipping into the low $1 range. I was somewhat annoyed to see that people weren't selling at least SOME of their BTC into LTC - instead, they were selling ALL their BTC and ALL their LTC for fiat. I understand fiat is stable at the moment, but there was no fundamental change in LTC that would have indicated a reason to sell other than "Oh I have an excuse to start another panic wagon in an alt-coin." It was still a fun ride, but it also proves that no matter what form your money is in, it's never safe from idiots.
Fiat - not safe from Ben Bernanke
Bitcoin/alt-coins - not safe from herd mentality of panic wagons
Gold/silver - not safe (in short-term) from naked paper shorts and HFT suppression algorithms.
