The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

Once step past a capcha is always some target that only humans are after. A dog does not solve capchas, nor a cat.
So whether or not the capcha is approached directly or indirectly by a human, it is ultimately a human interest involved in solving it.

Some captchas can be read automatically with OCR. For things like reCaptcha, there are farms of people willing to solve captchas for fractions of a penny.

No. It does give you a good idea that someone is human. A robot can send captcha to be solved by a human. Captchas are cheap to solve. $2/1000 recaptcha

Some captchas are hard to read. I guess it proves you are human if you can solve it.

DeathByCaptcha do $1.39 (or $0.99 under some circumstances) per 1000 solved captcha and they accept Bitcoin.

DeathByCaptcha do $1.39 (or $0.99 under some circumstances) per 1000 solved captcha and they accept Bitcoin. We provide two different types of New Recaptcha API: Coordinates API: Provided a screenshot, the API returns a group of coordinates to click. Image Group API: Provided a group of (base64-encoded) images, the API returns the indexes of the images to click. I disagree. They make you render the captcha instead of just paying for the response key to put in the form. Each recaptcha can have multiple required solves.

I heard way back they were start as a Google research project though.
Google gets millions of dollars worth of free labor a year, outsourcing the work of identifying things on google maps. The next step is for sweatshops in Malaysia to have capchas that involve grading knock off sneakers. "CAPCHA Select the picture which shows the most authentic looking Adidas Footwear label".

I think the recaptcha ones with the pictures are even harder to solve than the words sometimes.
You seem to do them correctly but it still pushes you to another screen to solve another one.

The robot can solve the captcha, but the man differs in that it can think and does not solve the captcha. People can think more widely and to cancel the action that for some reason decided not to perform. The robot cannot afford to choose an action. It is only valid for a given program.

Sometimes the bots are better at this stuff, becoming more human than the humans themselves
