What is the best way to transfer a Wordpress blog?

I would like to transfer a Wordpress-based blog from one hosting provider to another.
Usually I download a files and database dump and install it on the new hosting space. However this procedure is not very handy and sensitive to errors.
I wondering if there are other ways to transfer a blog?
