Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

Research Devcoin. It's created for your purpose.

You can get paid Devcoins for doing useful work, and convert to BTC on Vircurex.

Does anybody actually use Devcoin?

BTW what's the point of creating a sub-currency and not just using BTC itself?

Yes.

Because 90% of what would normally all go to miners go to devs such as the OP.

This interests me as well, I haven't figured out why the other currencies even exist. I know there are fundamental differences but what are the benefits?

I vow never to use this space for sleazy referrals, gambling, spam, or to beg for handouts.

Diversity is necessary, there's no reason to assume Bitcoin is perfect, and without competing cryptocurrencies it would stagnate.

Instead of me trying to explain it second-hand when I'm fairly new myself, it's better if you guys just do a search for devcoin and read up on it directly.
