President Trumps Budget: Lets make the military great again

So, Trump's first budget hit the deck today. Interesting, but nothing surprising. Unilateral cuts in everything but security spending. While I believe in a strong defense, given our obvious military superiority, I don't know if I agree with defunding social institutions and regulatory agencies in order to needlessly extenuate it. It's like we overnight said 'fuck human development, we needz more gunz!'.

Also, not seeing anything addressing entitlements. We never seem to get around to appropriately taxing the elite, but that's an argument for another time. 1.5 trillion. I want to see how the GOP reacts to this, they have been a long proponent of a balanced budget and this, is not that.

Trump did the right thing, by reducing the wasteful expenses. And he was right in increasing the defense budget, as the rival nations such as China and Russia are also increasing their defense spending.

World War I is not likely to happen again so there is no need to spend so much money on weapons that would win past wars.

Thoughts: There is benefit to allowing investment to happen organically, rather than forced by the government. A free economy provides more opportunity for all...all one needs is the will to capitalize on the opportunity available to them, then seek better opportunity and repeat.

Entitlements aren't really the agenda of any Republican. And so is the "bigger, better, stronger" military...there's no end to the size of the military they want to build, you know, for defense.

I sit somewhere in the middle. But I don't think taxing the rich is the automatic right answer. How about taxing the rich that don't contribute equally to society in other ways. Let's tax the actors, actresses, sports players, (unoriginal) music artists that do what they do regardless of the money and don't really improve society much. Let's not feel the need to tax (to no end) the people that run businesses that provide people jobs, the entrepreneurs that make our lives easier, the economists that make our lives more affordable.

Calm down. The world is not going to "end", at least for the next 1 billion years. And technology is rapidly improving, making our lives easier every day. Water/food security, healthcare, and poverty is no longer a concern in 90% of the nations.

He would probably just suggest to trump to max out the budget allocated to military expenditure and ignore the sciences research. I think that you are not right. The defense budget is one of the most costly budget items. All these costs are fully provoke inflation as it does not bring any economic effect. Production in the USSR was backward and could not afford such costs.

That's really a cool idea.  Tax the non producers.  I would only caution about the need to correctly define producers, such that manufacturers and distributers of beer, wine and liquor have "producer status."

All politicians would have non producer status, as would all in the media and "news" businesses.

You are simplifying your argument. It is true that the rising population of uneducated and unskilled Muslims was the number one reason for the disintegration of the USSR. It is not rocket science. When 20% of your population is composed of people who believe that non-believers should be beheaded, it is very difficult to implement the austerity measures in the education and healthcare sectors. The Central Asian states were draining the Soviet treasury at an alarming rate starting from the 1970s. A huge chunk of the Soviet tax revenues were used to improve the condition of the hospitals and schools in the region.
