what was your attitude when you first got into bitcoin? was it to get rich quick? make some dollars? learn the tech?

and how has it changed the more you've learnt? did you go from a moon kid to a serious scholar of the tech or even more of a moon kid than before?

i started off as interested in the dollars, then got more and more fascinated by the whole world around it, now i think i'm starting to come out the other side a little.

the more i've learnt about this scene the more screwed up it seems and i don't see how it's gonna cure itself. there's money to be made but i might be doing it no longer believing in its immediate future.

cryptocurrencies will never go anywhere but i'm starting to think what's around us now will be looked back on as the experimental and growing pains phase rather than anything that directly survives and is built on into the future. uncool but from the heart.

what about you?

I started to use bitcoin to make some cash... I was looking for an Ad network for a blog and comes to a site using Bitcoin only... I started to use I didn't even know what it is exactly and how Bitcoin works LOL I just knew I have a wallet at Coinbase and I receive bitcoin daily into it. I started to use Bitcoin I was not even sure how I could convert to fiat. Then I took interest on Bitcoin and the ecosystem, opened several blog related to Bitcoin but also Altcoin and Blockchain, as I also like how the blockchain technology is beeing used outside Bitcoin. I have been giving a little gift in forums from time to time just as gift to share, not a lot, last time it was something like 2$, just for promoting bitcoin somehow. The value doesn't matter, the gesture matter, you know. Since al this time, now I like debate, blogging, learning ect about crypto, it allowed me to meet some good people as well.

I started in bitcoin mainly with HYIP sites after earning from faucets (ponzi schemes that were quite widespread at that time). Since that point, I have gained more knowledge of the bitcoin technology and the way it functions and also decided to save bitcoins (rather than wasting them on investments/ponzis that are clearly unprofitible).

Also, bitcoin might go somewhere. It is quite likely it will. If not as the currency itself but as the foundations for other currencies and other ways of securities that can be used on the internet.

I think Bitcoin will stay the way it is often described, digital gold. Mined, traded, but not used for transacting on a daily basis. It lacks the capacity to process transactions fast enough to be a serious currency for daily use, another coin will take that place. One with a much lower value, higher availability and less of a focus on being 100% peer to peer with every part of the network untrusted.

The mining process should not be rewarded by the creation of money, but rather rewarded with small fees on very large transaction numbers, and the unit of value will need to be created at any point to allow other currencies to be moved into it, but only by trusted parties with witnessing and consent.

I first got into Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies to make money (it was around the time Bitcoin reached over 1k USD for the first time). I tried my chances in trading, making some bad choices and some good ones (I made a profit in the end, although no particularly significant amounts of money). As time progressed, however, I became more and more interested in the technology behind it. I remember becoming fascinated by how it was possible to make a decentralized system such as this.

The last year or so, I've started to appreciate the anonymous nature of the network. I have become more aware of all the online tracking, and it is frankly something that I do not like. Even when paying for completely legal things, I do not like the idea of someone else being able being able to see all my transactions directly linked to my name. Therefore I have tried to stick to Bitcoin (along with cash and PaySafeCard) when paying for things.

But I think that a large amount of Bitcoin's price increase has been based on the hope that it could one day be used more frequently for transactions and that it would be capable of doing so.  Other coins will usually not actually be any better than Bitcoin, the illusion of this would just be created through the low volume of transactions that those smaller coins are actually used for.

It costs so much to mine the damn things, plus the amount of coins that are being kept just to sell later on for profit inflates the price. Increasing demand and people willing to pay the high price keeps the price high.

Some things need to be ruled with an iron fist, and currency is one of them. Look where Bitcoin is, 2 groups with different ideas slagging each other off, blaming each other for the transaction backlog, trying to implement 2 different sets of rules, it's not helping. I'm hopefully starting a Crypto payment processing service this year, and I've had to drop support for Bitcoin and move elsewhere. It's all to volatile at the moment, I'd rather wait until either the chain forks, or this crap gets settled and things stabilise again.

I love the technology and the concept behind it. But the only thing which demotivates me from investing or having large amounts of it has always been the volatility. Due to that, I have lost trust into remaining invested in it, but when it comes to the use and application, I never mind buying and using it whenever I have to. For that it is perfect and much better than any other service like Paypal.

Also has taught me to be mindful of not trusting online services with my money.

Well it changed my attitude a lot. Since i enter here, i set my mind on how to earn money and used to buy things through online, exchanging into fiat and withdraw through some banks. I like this cryptocurrency its because for their security behind it. I love to post, to share ideas and get some information from it. I love to do some transactions, make some investments or paying some services like internet bills

In the starting i thought that bitcoin is only a way payment that is making us simple way of payment without tax . but as the time spent by me in the bitcoin increases my expereince and knowlege also increase at a great extent and made me fully profeesional earner in the bitcoin and altcoin market .
So i think this  is a same thing for all who entered in the bitcoin a newbie .
And abig thing in our life is that if we will use our mind in any field than surely we will get succes more and more whether this is bitcoin or any other field to make earning or start buisiness .

well if i want to be perfectly honest i got in to make profit and to be even more honest i am still caring about making profit from bitcoin. but over time other things became more important to me also.
it is best if i say "to get benefits" when using bitcoin, benefits such as more money when price goes up, the anonymity and privacy that i get, the cheap transactions, the security an most important one of all "the decentralization".
also i became more interested in the technology and always want to learn more about it, although i still have a lot to learn.

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip.
Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

In my experience in these field, it's not only my attidute to it have changed. Desicions, belief, and the way I see things in online working changed a lot. Bitcoin will always be Bitcoin. It's prices may go up and down, it may grow or it maybe just be nothing. My attidute toward it is always be the same, what makes a difference now is the way I view things. I learned a lot in these field. Earning, trading, investing, gambling and subtle things like trust, faith, knowledge. Through time in my opinion I think my attidute in Bitcoin has not change but Bitcoin changes me. Even if I stay longer into this thing as long as it helps me and benefit from it I will treat BTC as I treat it years ago.

The first time I have heard about Bitcoin I thought it was a online currency for criminals to use to make transactions online. The more I read about it, I believed that it could be a game changer in the world of finance. As I went into it deeper and deeper, I am into the thinking of it being a censorship resistant, decentralized, value transfer system that is perfect for the dark market participants. I believe they are also classified as criminals.

Same as the above statement I too got into bitcoin considering it an additional earning. Soon after that in a short it gave the knowledge and got interested to know more. Now I give importance as a earning, investment and mainly for gambling need.

I started using it because I wanted to buy oxy on Silk Road. I started mining to collect some coin for a purchase but before I could buy online I found a nice family doctor with a willing prescription pad so I didn't need Silk Road. The price started climbing so I got heavily into mining and hoarding coin. I believed all the hype about bitcoin for a long time until I started watching every respected member of this forum slowly turn into scammers and crooks. Now I just want to guess the top of bubbles and make as much money as I can. I thought we were due for a downswing so I sold 230 btc as soon as it went over $1,200. If we go below $800 I'll buy them back, rinse, repeat.

My first attitude when i learn about bitcoin is i can get rich quickly from it. Because you can earn while at home and just by depositing to some hyips or ponzis. And just by playing on those gambling sites with some amounts.

But i was wrong, i got scammed many times by those hyips and ponzis and lose too much money from gambling. So i've realize that what my parents are saying is correct. It is really not easy to earn money and we should spend it wisely. Bitcoin taught me that lesson so now i just spend my bitcoin when it is really needed.

At first I saw those zeros as something quite easy to fill up to 1 Btc, so I got working at it- microjobs, faucets, gambling, etc only to discover that 100 million satoshi is not all said and done and no thanks to all manners of scam programs and wallets. The cloud is a bit settled now except that the looming civil war between miners and exchanges is one thing that threatens every milestone Bitcoin have covered over its eight years of existence.
