For now, the new version is known only as 'Android O' - but as with most of its previous releases, the company will surely revise that with a new version number and a sweet-sounding name, following on from its predecessors:

    Android 1.5 Cupcake
    Android 1.6 Donut
    Android 2.0 to 2.1 Eclair
    Android 2.2 Froyo
    Android 2.3 Gingerbread
    Android 3.0 Honeycomb
    Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

    Android 5.0 to 5.1 Lollipop
    Android 6.0 Marshmallow

Duh.. right ?

I use Marshmallow on a phone and KitKat with a Tablet.
I doubt my old devices will get newer versions

And who ever chose Nougat should be slapped too !
The name and graphics for that are one are horrendous

I dont really know how did they arrived in such names though one thing I have realized when saw this list. It is something named after sweets, so maybe if they will add another one, it will be cake, or chocolate, or gummy bear? or anything cute food. And yeah, I also dont like the name nougat because I dont know what that is, but the fiod that cane to my mind, is a squishy-hard to eat,gum-like food.

You're right. I thought Android will always be named after dessert or something? CMIIW. Here's from CNET:

Google released Tuesday the developer version of its next Android OS currently called just O. Some of O's most exciting features are better battery life, easier controls for notifications and picture-in-picture video for both phones and tablets. There's no guarantee all these features will be in the full release some time later this year.

I am betting Orange for internal and Oreo for final version.

With KitKat it's said that they were joking about the name in the office..
Then someone figured why not ask if they can get legal permission.. they got it.
I bet Nabisco would be cool with it.
