What are the main statistics that you look at when determining which coins to invest in? I mainly mess with bitcoin, but I am now considering some Alt coins as well. Any advice is appreciated.

Invest: ICO or Trading.

For ICO investing, look at the people behind the project, can they develop what they actually promise, this is the main issue in crypto projects.
Also is there anything new that the project bring to the table, if it is just a copy of another project, the likelihood of success is low because it is going to play second fiddle to the main project

This is a very good site on cryptocurrencies. All the main currencies are there. You can see the chart showing you the dynamics of price compared to bitcoin or USD. You can also see the total price of the alt you are looking at (the whole market capitalization). Circulating supply is the amount of coins really used by users (the rest remains static as savings of people. And daily volume is how much was traded for the past 24 hours.
Coinmarketcap is the main site I look at but if a coin looks perspective, I read what people on this forum write about it and watch some videos if there are any.

Seriously the only advice I can give is this..... Just hold Bitcoin and Litecoin.  Everything else is purely pump and dumps and you will be eaten alive trying to trade.
These two coins are the only ones you should hold.
