This is my first post.

I've been on silk road a few times with no problem but in the last few days I get this error:

The following error occurred while trying to access http://ianxz6zefk72ulzz.onion/:
504 Connect to ianxz6zefk72ulzz.onion:80 failed: SOCKS error: connection refused

Can someone please help me? I didn't change anything. Are they down? I can browse other hidden services (.onion destinations).

I get the same error. I believe it is down. The backup address the first 2500 users got access to isn't working either.

The Silk Road is down for back-end accounting maintenance.  They will be back up in a few days.  Don't worry, they haven't been seized and are simply being proactive by working to eliminate unscheduled downtime in the future.

Is it me, or has Silk Road really made the media outlets lately?

It happened at an unfortunate time though. I know there are people out there who held btc in silkroad and wanted to take it out and sell before the big drop, but couldn't get it out.

All the more incentive to keep all your BTCs in your personal encrypted wallet, except when you're just about to make a non-native transaction (such as through SR or MtGox).
