Usually the most simple ways to make research about the altcoin is it's Bitcoin talk thread and his own site . If want make sure that whether the altcoin that is launched is safe or not that it is better way to see the programming of the bitcoin whether it is working on Sha 256 , pos or any other algorithm . Because algorithm directly shows the value of the altcoin in the market from the point views of its security . Secondly here it will be more better to say that the demand of the altcoin will predict the future of the altcoin according to as buy sell .

in order not to be confused too much this two would serve as your basis in order to follow the alts project being active with their slacks and keep asking question to dev is the best effective ways to know how this project will be moving forward, while seeing those interested people who keeps posting from their ann page here in the forum will allow you also to verify whether support from the community will help the project to succeed.

all altcoin are released in the announcement, if you miss one it's good to see the altcoin discussion, this section or the speculation, some times their name pop up there or in the marketplace of the altcoin

Well i am not sure if physical text is reliable but most people will suggest investors to read the whitepaper. To be honest, although i invested in tons of ico, i've never ever finish one whole whitepaper itself. I usually read the abstract and browse and skip. Well, laziness is meant to be punished, so certain project end up scam Anyhow, don't rely on text too much. Gotta agree with the points above, check the code. Well, i have just basic IT skills on hardware software but i cannot read code. As if the project source code could be read, you can read from the codes. I seen before people find out that dev lie about the total supply of coin where the mentioned total supply is not same as the one in the code. So, unit testing should be the best way to research a coins because you personally, tested the platform Good luck!

Very handy, would definitely bookmark these two forums.

You are doing it right already, just follow their ANN thread and any service discussion about their thread and you'll be fine. Most of the things that you need to learn about your research on a certain project will be already there.

it mostly depends on what you want to find out about them. for example the specifications, the links and where they are traded can be found on their announcement topic as it was linked above. it can also be found on websites such as coinmarketcap that list these coins. you can click on each of them and see the markets and also where they are being traded. also it usually has a twitter account link that gives the news feeds of these coins. for newer coins the only way is to look at ANN board.
but if you are looking for price related stuff then the only source is yourself and what analysis you can come up with based on looking at the charts.

ANN of a project might not give accurate analysis of a project especially if the thread is self moderated, another thing is those people that are paid to hype the coin just to generate attention

The coinmarketcap.com site allows you to analyze each currency against the other's performance in an easier and more practical way. It allows you to perceive the currency's oscillation, the market value and the unit price of it. When Bitcoin is down, people are thinking of leaving Bitcoin to go to some other altcoin. The problem in this type of strategy is that with the site coinmarketcap.com it is clear that in the fall of the price of Bitcoin, other altcoins usually go together and usually have bigger falls than Bitcoin. This site is great for doing an analysis of which altcoins are most valued and create a pot of altcoins in an intelligent way.

ashapasa, In addition to the links already given by people, you can find out more about new digital currency and ICOs in the following website: https://www.smithandcrown.com/Moreover, you can get a quick overview of new digital currencies here below, which you could use in conjunction with coinmarketcap.com : https://www.cryptocompare.com/portfolio/In this cryptocompare site you have basic information of almost all digital currencies, algorithms, wallets, mining equipment, exchanges, etc; besides that, you can even easily create your own digital currency portfolio and monitor your currencies in real time for price, profits, etc. Another quite interesting and useful site you can explore is: http://cryptorials.io

Read the subreddits as well - lots of coins have a reddit presence and community that is bigger than the one on bitcointalk.
Also - Google is your friend - always put the coin name + scam into google to see what comes up (disgruntled people will usually have posted comments on forums and blogs about problems).

If the altcoin is having big supporters and that's really promising project in my mind. Or you can try to see it through his roadmap or the dev.
