ICOs are getting worse and worse. That is a fact, but what did you expect? This is new way of earning money and milk fools. Literally anyone can start a new ICO project and promise you anything. Bullshit a way through with crazy roadmap and features. You need to remember that you vote with your money, if something is too good to be true, the it is most likely a failed project. If we stop investing in every new ICO just because they promise us high revenue it will effectively limit new ICO market.
still they should make a process that people need to go through until they are allowed to create an ico here. some icos are so lazy and ridiculus its a shame

Not all ICOs are scams and many are now starting to appoint escrows as if they don't succeed in collecting their minimum required investment, they refund the investors. However, currently there are many scam ICOs where the developers just run away with the investors money but then all these projects are just a gamble at the end of the day. Hardly few of them succeed while some have the potential but get no investments.

Not real, ethereum, nxt, xem, stratis, lisk, are all good and profitable ICOs, not every ico are bad.
Wrong. ALL of them are bad because of the fact they are an "ICO" You see dumb ass's the distribution is unfair and far too easy to exploit. It was an idea taken from the US stock market etc and used here with no laws to pretend these are companies and penny stocks. The concept spits on the very idea of decentralization and open source etc. It rapes crypto's idealogy ! I don't just think people are idiots using them but are a cancer to crypto. I can rattle off a long list of problems with your golden child Ethereum. ETH is s cam coin ICO and you all support it for no other reason than profits. Profit does not make a coin "legit" The ICO was born out of laziness.. A better initial distribution should have been designed but instead they flopped on the backs and said ahh well fuck it.. let's just work on the stuff after it's launched. When in fact the MOST important par is the FUCKING launch ! You do deserve to be called idiots because you ruined crypto. And you will all suffer the consequences for it too.

the only "idiot" here is you because you missed lisk wings iconomi ICOs and now you're trolling because you're pissed off and.. YOU missed the ETH ICO in 2014 huh ? Butters said he cashed out a million dollars worth which was a quarter of his holdings. So his rabid shill supporters say here (i guess it was larger) Did even 1 of you ask how the fuck he became a millionaire ? Of course not.. you all don't give two shits. You care about YOUR faggy little ROI'z Ahh but the "Your jealous" retort.. an oldy but a goody. Yup i am soaked in sweat at night i did not participate in scammy bullshit for ROI'z. mmm hmmm ya got me ! Yup.. ya found me out guys Jealous ? ya you are.. of the fact i have more class and integrity than every ICO shithead combined. This personifies the ICO defense.. Not all ICO's are bad = Not all pyramid schemes are bad. Nope dumb fucks i dun think so.. bad is bad. When an idiot cries jealousy or one of the other cliche'd retorts it's like... Seeing a dipshit ICO supporter wearing one of those "I'm with stupid" T-Shirts ..standing in front of mirror.

Admit it, you got burned. You just did not do your part which is some serious research. I would say about 20% of them are scams, about 60% fail as businesses, about 20% are profitable for ICO investors. And it's not that hard to pick right one!

Well for the self-moderated thread, if you found it out that they are trying to hide something then why you are going to join that ICO in the first place? There are some ICO's that aren't just for money making, if you'll do some research on what they are actually planning to do, you will be attracted. It's a win-win situation for you if you'll find a good one.

How does the escrow work ? Do all of the funds from the ICO go into it and are only released if x% is reached ? Is it possible to find out the details of the escrow for a particular ICO ? I was looking into one a little while back where Brave Coin was doing the escrow and saw the sheet but it lacked real specifics

Definitely true, there are ICO's thread that are not active and doesn't answers the questions of their member or those animated to join in details ,they doesn't promote or make necessary information just in case ICO will not be successful, though anything in bitcoin takes risk ,we need to really think whether to join, to gambling,to invest or do trading. That show we earn and appreciates bitcoin in the end for a decision well deserved.

ICO is a dangerous investment, most of the time ICO is a scammed and failed coin, so you need to be extra careful if you want to put your money in ICO, but not every ICO is a failure, investing in ICO is the same with gamble, but it is more dangerous than gambling, so if you think you can earn with ICO then you need to think and rethink again before investing

There are new and wonderful ideas that need to go further. Some of these ideas take the shape of an ICO before becoming a reality.
It is then, when some people with vision support those ideas even if they might loose some money. Then, there might be just another kind of people, the visionaries. Those who support great ideas no matter what, and those who only support ideas based on profit reasoning alone.
For example the recent Chronobank (TIME) ICO displays a concept very useful for the society, the same as TOKES ICO. It is about time that time-skill currencies get to the masses (TIME ICO), and medicinal plants get to the masses (TOKES ICO) both powered by blockchain technology.
Somebody has to support those great ideas for the benefit of society. I do not think they are stupid, they are just VISIONARIES.

if ico idiots and the people who invest in ico is an idiot. then the first person to wear, investment, create & dev bitcoin is also an idiot?. This is not much different from how curency born, bitcoin has value because of the currents and use in ICO, ICO may be true many who commit fraud, and many also ICO are not in accordance with the market analysis. before investing in ico then we need the data analysis, ranging algorithms, the number of coin, CO- founder, the technology and the data owner or developer ico. This meminimalizir folly to invest in ICO.

I wouldn't go as far as calling everyone idiots if they join an ICO, when people join an ICO they know or should know that it is high risk, especially if they have been around here for a while they will be aware that the majority will fail but there will be the odd one or two that will succeed and I think it is this that a lot of people want to be part of, the next bitcoin / bitcoin 2.0.

I tought about the same exact thing when I read OP, he probably got burned on some ICO and now trying to tell the world all ICO’s are exactly like what he talks about. I remember the times where there was no ICO at all, when there was an announcement of a new coin they weren’t there one day and the next day they were there. We could mine them on their early days with laptops and stuff. These ICO’s are basically telling us “we would like to start a new coin but we don’t have enough Money to do so”, it was pre-mined coins back in the day that did the basically same thing but at least they waited a bit. ICO’s could be great oppurtunity if you select the right coin, get in the very early stages of the coin while it goes up and up in the future but it could also be a horrible investment if its either a scam or a failed attempt.

There is almost never a need for a self moderated tread. On coin ANN topics they are a red-flag. The reality is here is the existing rules cover spam and trolling and advertising etc. So why the extra self mod rules ? To claim EVERYTHING not positive sucking up is... "FUD" And then delete it. I say this not because of theory alone but by experience. The dopeheads here want to create a walled-garden insulated from the rest of crypto by pretending they are not launching coin #4,511 out of 7,021 ..on a forum that ALLOWS posting any type of scam !It's a way to try and ignore and pretend the context of the situation does not exist. The context of it all all stipulates clearly that FUD is highly warranted. ALWAYS !The coin dev's lost the privilege of the benefit of the doubt long ago. FUD FIRST AND ASK QUESTIONS LATER !

ICOs aren't the bad thing everyone is making them to be. Sure, there are scam attempts, but a smart user knows how to avoid those (by experience or by intuition). You might lose out on a few projects which are just trying to take profits, but you will gain from the legitimate projects. Honestly, if an ICO project is super hyped up, I would rather just buy on the first day of exchanges.

I agree, OP. By the way, did QTUM turn out to be a complete scam or what? I've not been really following the altcoin section for a few days. They have/had a self modded thread and a pretty lucrative sig campaign. Seemed like they were going to take the money and skeedaddle. That's typical ICO behavior, and I do think anyone investing in these things is fucking crazy.

There are even self-moderated threads when someone is posting their problems regarding their ICO, they are simply deleting those queries. I usually lose my appetite when I mistakenly clicking those ANN threads, because I do usually check if there are interesting projects at ANN's section. The forum isn't liable and moderating scams or it's advertisement, it's our responsibility to cover ourselves and avoid those shady projects. We are all grown and we can simply ignore those threads/projects.
