%99 of ICOs and altcoins are totally scam attempts and when you see a moderated thread announcing ICO or an alt coin launch and if you invest a penny then you are an idiot. when you see alot of people are posting in these threads thinking it must be legit, you are an idiot.
Don't you know there are troll armies experts for hire to post and keep a thread live and on top and posting positive comments only to lure you into sending your money as donation to them.

Who in their right mind would trust a developer launching an ICO or a crapcoin in a self moderated thread?

ICO should not even be called an investment, it should be called a gamble because it is a gamble.
you see a thread and some unknown anonymous person on the internet who is saying "my coin is awesome" and the code is not ready yet, it just lists some specification which you have seem a thousand times before and i bet not a single person checks the code!

that is why i say it is a gamble. people put their money down and bet if the projects gets enough victims to pump up or fail and they lose.

ICO is instrument of investments and it is high risk losing money investments into ICO
except we can make profit from investments into ICO
it is like buy IPO of companies without clear rules like IPO of companies,
basiccally it is more high risk than investments into IPO,

Now it's possible for everyone to create new altcoin but not everyone can to create succesful altcoin. Well, you can't call such people idiots because they know what and why are they doing that and also there were some succesful ICO's which weren't bad for investment. It's not easy to trust ICO's nowdays but if there are chanses that you will find good one, everything depends on you. If you don't like, simply avoid them.

But every other way of collecting funds is doomed to failure. Nobody even consider to donate, and if donate this is symbolic not enough for serious work. Premine is hated but still is better then ICO, everything under 1% is ok.
Maybe best is funding trough mining, this is fair system.

Risk are always there especially in ICO. If they buy as an investment then surely its like a gamble. There are ICO who are not worth enough to participate and there are also which is very rewarding. It depends on the  people behind the company or devs how they update in community.

From the first time i do hear about ICO's i do know that they are good investment which gives multiple times profit on your capital and when i tried to invest for the very first time and the coin i put my money on goes to scam which developer ran all away the money and thats the time i dont have any trust on any ICO's as of now unless if they are very transparent.

Why did you choose to insult them? I think you better explain your thoughts well without that, it doesn't help anyway. I think they knew about the troll also, most probably those high ranked members. We just need to be really careful in any type of investments, whether ICO or not. Research can be helpful, don't just go with the flow of supporters & reviews (who may be fake).

PS. For me, safer choice is not investing on ICOs as well but we need to respect other people's decision, it's their money anyway.

i say let them burn, it is a bit harsh to say but at least they may learn some lessons this way. and it will happen too.
for example remember the days of pre-mine and significantly-pre-mine altcoins. those days we were saying the same thing, that pre-mine altcoins are scams and stay away, it is highly risky, "anyone buying a premine is an idiot", ... and nobody listened.

now there are no more. but the new technique is ICO and soon this will become old and a new scamming technique will come out and the battle continues.

It is not like that you can take almost 99% of the ICO after the ICO is finished and when they are listed in exchange they are dumped below the ICO price and after some days it moves up, so it is much better to get the altcoin listed in exchange and then buy on dip that is the correct way of investing and trading in altcoins

If you look at the top 30 coins in the coinmarketcap some of them went through ico phase some examples are pesobit,bitconnectcoin so it is not right to call these supporters and investors idiot,you are the idiot for not doing a research on coins that passed the ico stage successfully..

Honestly some projects are using the clone account to give a kind word for their project. But not all of the project were doing it. It will need more analyzation.

But, honestly I get a lot of the money through the ico which means investing on the right project will give a lot of the ROI. Do you think if the bitcoin isn't starting from the crap coin?

I agree with you that 99% of these projects will die natural death with time just like the internet bubble, but this is  the new money in town, people will gamble on the success of 1% that will succeed in  future and the projects that will eventually succeed we don't really know which one.

sorry to tell you this but crypto has turned out to be like ponzi. just look at this section ( Altcoin section )  . hundrards of trheads about some bullshit coin and ICO. 

OP is right , ICO are easy way to scam people.  Why is ICO even needed if the team behind the coin have good tech and ideas. They can take it directly to the exchangers.  this way Dev still gets their money for development and investors can at least be safe knowng they can sell if shit hits the fan

You are generalizing,the fact is there are a lot of good ico coin that started,but those who are moderated with no escrow are ico that should not be trusted,but if ico coin is transparent and he has an escrow you can bet your money here,but it's noit a guaranty to be profitable.

I'm new to the cryptocoin area and I'm glad that I saw this. I do think there are some legit ICOs out there but a lot of them are garbage. But even of the legit ones, there is a slim chance that the coin will pick up. Adoption isn't just about how great the technology is but also about the followers. I do think any ICO needs to be a calculated risk and it's possible to make money but rare

ICOs are getting worse and worse. That is a fact, but what did you expect? This is new way of earning money and milk fools.
Literally anyone can start a new ICO project and promise you anything. Bullshit a way through with crazy roadmap and features.
You need to remember that you vote with your money, if something is too good to be true, the it is most likely a failed project.
If we stop investing in every new ICO just because they promise us high revenue it will effectively limit new ICO market.
