Recently I was interested in how popular each cryptocurrency is on the forum, so I counted the number of mentions for each top-100 coin over the last 30 days of extant forum posts. A post counts as a mention if the "name" or "abbr" in the following table occurred as a separate word in that post's body or subject, case-insensitively. So for example the word "translat ion" wouldn't count for ION because ion isn't a separate word there. But "what time is it?" would count for Chronobank because Chronobank has the symbol "TIME", which is why Chronobank's number is very inflated. Note that every reply to a topic usually has the topic's title as its subject, which can count as a mention. It's not perfect, but I only wanted a rough idea. +------------------+----------+----------+ | name | abbr | mentions | +------------------+----------+----------+ | bitcoin | btc | 127855 | | chronobank | time | 52949 | | synereo | amp | 26335 | | ethereum | eth | 22961 | | gamecredits | game | 15809 | | dash | dash | 11164 | | ethereum classic | etc | 10547 | | zcash | zec | 5811 | | monero | xmr | 5806 | | viacoin | via | 5592 | | faircoin | fair | 4582 | | ark | ark | 3886 | | litecoin | ltc | 3841 | | waves | waves | 3751 | | lisk | lsk | 3399 | | round | round | 3003 | | iconomi | icn | 2813 | | first blood | 1st | 2692 | | byteball | gbyte | 2306 | | decred | dcr | 2248 | | pivx | pivx | 2144 | | dogecoin | doge | 2068 | | komodo | kmd | 2009 | | nem | xem | 1978 | | stratis | strat | 1445 | | nxt | nxt | 1411 | | ripple | xrp | 977 | | cloakcoin | cloak | 944 | | pascal coin | pasc | 907 | | bitbay | bay | 905 | | ion | ion | 874 | | vpncoin | vpn | 862 | | steem | steem | 802 | | crown | crw | 739 | | shadowcash | sdc | 678 | | bitcoin plus | xbc | 621 | | burst | burst | 617 | | golem | gnt | 604 | | antshares | ans | 596 | | zcoin | xzc | 586 | | potcoin | pot | 563 | | counterparty | xcp | 544 | | augur | rep | 518 | | blackcoin | blk | 503 | | siacoin | sc | 472 | | ardor | ardr | 446 | | supernet | unity | 436 | | bytecoin | bcn | 432 | | tether | usdt | 418 | | gulden | nlg | 414 | | expanse | exp | 408 | | creditbit | crbit | 388 | | melon | mln | 375 | | lbry credits | lbc | 373 | | ubiq | ubq | 372 | | nexium | nxc | 362 | | facton | fct | 359 | | vslice | vsl | 355 | | nexus | nxs | 346 | | bitconnect | bcc | 344 | | monetaryunit | mue | 342 | | bitcoindark | btcd | 330 | | nav coin | nav | 312 | | namecoin | nmc | 311 | | digibyte | dgb | 304 | | peercoin | ppc | 303 | | bitshares | bts | 299 | | e-dinar coin | edr | 298 | | syscoin | sys | 288 | | aeon | aeon | 287 | | vertcoin | vtc | 280 | | pepe cash | pepecash | 260 | | curecoin | cure | 259 | | belacoin | bela | 258 | | radium | rads | 255 | | i/o coin | ioc | 235 | | maidsafecoin | maid | 226 | | clams | clam | 222 | | bitcrystals | bcy | 190 | | singulardtv | sngls | 184 | | novacoin | nvc | 162 | | boolberry | xbb | 156 | | emercoin | emc | 131 | | omni | omni | 110 | | arcticcoin | arc | 100 | | arcade token | arc | 98 | | solarcoin | slr | 90 | | storjcoin x | sjcx | 86 | | sibcoin | sib | 79 | | nautiluscoin | naut | 77 | | xaurum | xaur | 66 | | goldcoin | gld | 57 | | stellar lumens | xlm | 43 | | monacoin | mona | 37 | | gridcoin | grc | 36 | | rubycoin | rby | 20 | | digixdao | dgd | 13 | | agoras tokens | agrs | 3 | | lomocoin | lmc | 2 | | ybcoin | ybc | 0 | +------------------+----------+----------+

I think you must reconsider the other meaning when you say, time, which is the abbreviation for the chronobank. You must just consider the word time when they are talking about it, and not when they usually talk like in the Off topic and Politics and Society, time has other meaning for that.
But all in all, it is really good, but I am just dissapointed that, senereo, or this amp, has greater mentions than litecoin and Ethereum.

it would be very interesting to see how this changes in different months though. to see the relationship between "pumping-months" and "dumping or no volume-months" in altcoins and mentions of them. for example i was expecting to see Ethereum at least before bitcoin specially since it was for the last 30 days only and that coin has been the spam topic of the month and i bet the month before it was somewhere at the bottom of the list !

I think theymos already excluded posts from off-topic from the numbers quoted. Chronobank inflated numbers aside, I am kinda surprised that siacoin actually has lesser than 500 mentions. With all the measures the dev had towards inflation and other innovations, and the upcoming minebox, I have read their whitepaper, seems like a severely underpriced asset for now, although probably not a bad thing as the dev wanted prices to be kept low for storage users. Disclaimer: I am not affilated with siacoin, just thought that it is pretty innovative.

I'm surprised there is no ranking for dankcoin. Remember dankcoin? Remember dank? you see, once dankcoin is released, the US economy is going to collapse in attempt to create a new economy of love. I will be attacked as people allow a superficial imaginary concept such as greed dominate their mind. though I have realized, if I feel complete peace, I cannot be killed, as the attacker will be depleted of energy before they are able to succeed in their attack.

I am surprised to see synereo so high up on the list. I think I saw something on reddit about SW failing today, but other than that, I have never heard of this coin. I am not really sure why it is so high on this list.
There are also probably a lot of false positives for "game" -- another coin I have never heard of.
I think it is interesting (and somewhat unsurprising) that etherum/classic, along with several privacy oriented altcoins being heavily mentioned.

did a simple search for 'amp' on the forum; it turned up in Hardware, mining, marketplace, off topic... It's another word like 'time' with other uses. the same might apply to 'etc' and 'game' as you say It's not perfect, but I only wanted a rough idea.
Great!

Funny thing, I have, at some point, wondered about this too, so thanks for the stats. Since "game" and "amp" seem to be attracting many false positives, it doesn't really impress me to see ETH right after BTC...

Yes, Time is sort of a generic word and it does not represent that chronobank altcoin. Searching for keyword "chronobank" may yield correct results and believe me it will not make chronobank a number 2 crptocurrecny And same can be said of "Game"

Next time you should really exclude common words like time, via, game, fair, round, unity, cure, maid! Those words are almost never used to refer appropriate crypto, just common words. That inflation is unreasonable by design.

Now I see why this was necessary. (points towards the April 1st prank badges)
Can we assume that Dash and Ethereum would be the most probable ones to be deserving of a spot up there? (though, what's really to be expected?)
I don't think that Ethereum Classic would really have too many inflated mentions: though you could garner a lot of extra counts with the use of "etc", it's unlikely that a significant portion of those counts are the in aforementioned context.
However, I have an inquiry: with every mention of Ethereum Classic, is there an additional count to Ethereum? If so, then perhaps the "real count" of Ethereum is only 12414, only slightly higher than Dash!

However, I have an inquiry: with every mention of Ethereum Classic, is there an additional count to Ethereum?
Yes. I redid the top 15 from my rough result using more complex & accurate regular expressions: Bitcoin: 126741 (\bbitcoins?(?!(?:\s|[-_#$%()*:@[^`{}~]){0,4}plus)\b|\bbtc\b)i Ethereum: 22959 (\bethereum(?!(?:\s|[-_#$%()*:@[^`{}~]){0,4}classic)\b|\beth\b)i Dash: 10466 (\bdash\b)i Zcash: 5770 (\bzcash\b|\bzec\b)i Monero: 5746 (\bmoneros?\b|\bxmr\b)i Litecoin: 4358 (\blitecoins?\b|\bltc\b)i Ark: 3872 (\bark\b)i Waves: 3708 (\bwaves\b)i Chronobank: 3517 (\b[0-9]+\W{0,4}TIME\b|(?i)\bchronobank\b) Lisk: 2970 (\blisk\b|\blsk\b)i ETC: 1592 (\b(?<!, )(?<!,)ETC(?!\.)\b|(?i)\bethereum\W{0,4}classic\b|\bethereum\b.*\bclassic\b|\bclassic\b.*\bethereum\b) Faircoin: 818 (\bFAIR\b|(?i)\bfair[-]?coin[s2]?\b) Synereo: 738 (\bAMP\b|(?i)\bsynereo\b) Gamecredits: 722 (\b[0-9]+\W{0,4}GAME\b|(?i)\bgame\W{0,4}credits?\b) Viacoin: 406 (\bVIA\b|(?i)\bviacoins?\b)
- ETC may be somewhat under-counted because any instance of "ETC" at the end of a sentence will not count, in order to avoid counting all-caps lists (eg. "SELLING BOOKS MOVIES ETC."). - Dash may be a little over-counted because someone might use the English word dash without referring to the coin, and that'd count. There's no good way to avoid this. - I figured out that Synereo was so massively over-counted previously because before posts are stored in the database, all instances of "&" are translated to "&", which counted for them. In these more accurate results, I reversed such mangling and parsed bbcode before counting.

Is it possible to have an update of these statistics? It would be curious to see shitcoins mentions in a bear market. In this initial list, the majority should not even exist anymore.

I don't have the code on hand anymore, though if at least a few people are interested, it'd only take me 15-30 minutes to rewrite it. Please provide PCRE patterns for each coin you're interested in, like the ones I gave in my last post in this thread.
