How exactly undervolting and overclocking and bios modifying improves hash rate?

I sort of know it does.

But how exactly does it work?

I can have good guesses. Perhaps modifying bios will improve how "tight" timing on memory is.

Overclocking GPU don't seem to work at all because actual GPU clock is always lower according to afterburner. This is for ethash. Setting GPU frequency in afterburner is more like setting GPU maximum frequency.

Not sure what undervolting does.

Similarily to the other reply I wrote in your other thread, for chips to do certain speeds you have to feed them certain voltages. If you starve them electricity compared to clock speed (too undervolted or too overclocked) they will crash eventually. The cards are set up in the factory not to starve (crash) so they might get too much electricity compared to how much they would actually need to work without crashing. So you can potentially give them less power (undervolting) and they would still work just the same. But each chip is different (silicon lottery) so there's no magic formula, only trial and error.

leave at stock

and set undervolt to   -50  saves power

fans to 50%

this should run  and give standard hash rate for eth about  21

leave undervolt at -50%

set core to 1200
memory to 1750  see if it runs.
fans at 50%



this should boost  hash a bit..

I read your posts  and you are:

 a bull in a china shop
 a lead foot
 a more power guy

and you burn your gear up


be mellow  relaxed  undervolt a bit and do standard clocks,,

once you get a feel for it

you can try pushing the gear.

I have been doing mining for 5 years plus

I almost never burn gear out.  lets   say 7 of 1000 pieces of gear

My thought is cryptomining is here to stay I dont need to rush and burn up gear

next play with core for eth I never go past 1200
so you may find the cards on a rig run well at 1200 and 2200
then I lower mV  from -50 to -55

How do you undervolt?

There are programs who limit your CPU usage and that cools than your computer by 5 to 20 degrees. That way you will have a cooler CPU and a cooler computer which is a must in mining business considering it can get really hot.

I burned out one of my old laptops (back when you can mine with laptops) mining 24/7, If I knew these methods I would probably still had that.

It seems that you don't care. You just care that the card save power

The power saving is impressive though. So it's achieved by lowering voltage?

Actually can we put absolute value there? I mean instead of -50, what is the absolute value of voltage there?
