So Polaris is getting a spec bump in the new RX 500 series from AMD.  Looks the RX 580 is a little higher on the memory speed than a 480. I suspect they will be very similar in performance if using a modded BIOS/alternate memory timings.

http://wccftech.com/amd-radeon-rx-580-570-560-3dmark-performance-benchmarks/

AMD isn't doing any favors releasing this stuff right before Vega.  Many people will be confused that this is Vega.

No its a refresh, anyone paying the high cost for Vega will notice the difference in price and performance I think.
Higher speeds but I think this just puts the card where 480 can already overclock to, to make it offical.  So it remains to be seen if the 580 can do as well and move performance higher?

Mostly the release should benefit the company and allow them to make the technology more cheaply and reliably, in time prices will drop sub $100 even.

Heres an old article for VEGA technology which seems to be much more of an advance and unknown in its possibilities.    What I came to ask is if anyone can guess how well might VEGA do crypto mining or will it even be able to.   The vertical memory and cache system looks to be an interesting system

Yes, I'm very interested to see if the RX 580 will let memory go faster than the best 480's.  Samsung GDDR5 perhaps.  It would be great if this pushes prices down on 480's or new 580's too.

Thanks for the link, STT. I'll review that for sure.

AMD pulled 470/480 production already so aside from what's left in the channel it's only the 570/580. Board layouts are a bit different, have some samples on the way shortly to test with, hoping for incremental improvements but not necessarily..

Thanks for confirming what I suspected -- I expect not much if any gains on memory based algos and maybe small gains on gpu based algos.

not me im waiting for Vega and buying a few more 400 series after Vega comes out and  after I have one or two Vega, i might buy one 570 ...and  waiting till Tuesday coming for Rryzen 5, i found a few R5's on sell now but they cost to much for one that will cost 40 bucks less on Tuesday, i can wait .

Everything I have seen on the RX 5xx is that the GPU chip is being made on a new, slightly more efficient process that will allow slightly higher clock speed on the GPU CORE at same to slightly less power consumption but NO change to the memory speeds.

Be nice if the memory speed DID improve though.

I agree, I just suspect memory won't change much. I think for mining ETH and XMR the 480 and 580 are going to be pretty close to the same, especially if you undervolt and downlock the core to save power to get those hash/power ratios up higher.

The GPU is being called the Polaris 20 or Polaris 20 XTX to be exact. This is the same basic GPU as Ellesmere, also known as Polaris 10. Basically the transition from Hawaii to Grenada is the same thing we are seeing here, from Polaris 10 to Polaris 20 XTX. It is a revised chip, but essentially, still very much a re-badge. The Polaris 20 XTX will be present in the upcoming Radeon RX 580 graphics cards and the Polaris 20 XTL will be present in the RX 570 graphics card from AMD and add-in-board partners. Lower end cards will have the Polaris 11 GPU aka Baffin. It’s anyone’s guess what it will end up being called on paper, but VCZ has found a driver build calling it a “Lexa Pro”.

570 will be better then 470 but 580 will not be that better compared to 480.

It all comes down to memory speed. The rest can be easily overclocked.

will see the price of 570 and Mhs, anyway we need to mining a lot before Eth switch to POS to get ROI back

I'm sure there will be a "shortage availability" price surcharge the first month or two - but I think I remember AMD announcing that the pricing should be a little LOWER on the RX 5xx series over comparable RX 4xx cards - something like $10 or so though, so not a noticeable improvement.

They DEFINITELY can't afford to sell the cards for much if any more, since NVidia is finally competing with them with the GTX 1060 and what I call the "GTX 1060 lite" (3GB) cards vs the RX x80 and RX x70, and the GTX 1050 vs the RX x60.

It might be priced in line with the Vega release not that long after.  A bit less then half the power and about half the cost is roughly what I expect.   So something along the lines of retail price of $250 for 8gb to start and perhaps later some discounting or cashback but on release they may include the game Prey as part of a bonus or a token to get it as that comes out 5th May.
Some people say Vega will arrive 5th May on that game date but dont think I believe that
