Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Considering that everyone was paid and that most of the winners have already confirmed this in the thread, I am now closing it. Congratulations again to everyone who won. There are likely going to be more BSD contests in the future (although they may be BSD only).
