Before throwing away an old drive, I found an old litecoinqt file.

Also a .bat wallet backup, which I am unable to open.

It is currently synching - it is 280 weeks behind- am I wasting my time updating?

I believe it is empty, but when I put the addy into Litecoin Explorer it shows blank - no info at all.

Does the qt need to synch before the addy shows up with any balance?

(Again, most likely it has a zero balance, just wanted to check before throwing the disk away.)

The blockchain IS the wallet...if its not on the blockchain, its definitely wont magically show up in your wallet. Thats not to say there is nothing in your wallet...wallets store coins in multiple addresses, so it could be that you havent checked the right address.

A blockchain explorer shows all the transactions and balances for an address.

In a sense, the explorer is already synced all the time.

If checking your address shows 0 balance, it means it has 0 balance.

On a side note, if it was created before 2014, import the wallet into a clam wallet to get your free clamcoins, 4. something clams per change address if I remembered.

Thanks guys, for not beating me up too badly. Wink

(It just looked unusual not to have "zero balance" at that address - just shows a blank page, no address, no balance, nothing!)

I think I might have tried mining litecoin in the beginning, but with the electric costs here stuck to trading instead.

Yes, it was before 2014, so I need to do that clam dig...

(Also left a tiny amount of dash, at some pool that I need to move before I forget.)

One thing I tried, I imported an old core wallet with huge amounts of change addresses into clam wallet after removing my funds.

Somehow, if you import a wallet dat direct, you get the clam coins as tied to you the instant you imported, needing no syncing of the blockchain.

I basically downloaded the clam wallet, imported it , and sent out a transaction of my clam balance to poloniex without letting the blockchain sync complete.

Somehow it sent out the transaction which I found was received by a block explorer, half an hour later it was confirmed even though the wallet was still downloading, I promptly deleted the still syncing clam wallet.

Thanks again guys - had clam checker scan the wallet, and as suspected, it was worthless.

Hard drive can now get tossed with no doubts.

EDIT:  Found another older hard drive I was thinking about discarding with more wallets I had forgotten about.... Roll Eyes

Found an old darkcoin wallet with a minimal amount - 2 years old.
Do I need to do anything to change it to dash or is it the same coin?

(Found some answers:https://www.dash.org/forum/threads/conversion-of-old-darkcoins-to-dash.4466/)

I know the feeling...to this day I know I had mined some bitcoins on my CPU back in 2011 (probably not much but still worth hundreds today), and I have no idea what happed to that wallet or where it is.
