Hindus believe cow as their sacred animal. Most of them dont eat it and they think killing cow as a sin.But what the problem is,in india, some hindus call themselves as cowrakshaks, meaning saviors of cow and they start attacking and even killing other people if found eating beef or carrying beef with them.Either you dont kill cow, otherwise you will be killed. Its their slogan.

India is a very contradictory country. Among the population of India is really a common respect for the cows, but this does not prevent India to take fifth place in the world for beef production. These are the miracles there are in this country.

I think i saw an article where cow vigilantes attacked a muslim man for transporting cows. The mob beat up the muslim man to death. In the course of the attack six other people were injured and now the police are saying both sides are to be blamed for the whole fiasco, Whats wrong with buying and transporting cows. They are preparing to charge the survivors of the attack with smuggling.

Which is one of the reasons why i see India as a third world country. I respect almost everyone's believe, but to kill other people because you don't agree with them is just plain idiotic. It's abysmal to kill a guy just because he is selling beef.

Is this really true for all hindus? I guess that there are only few who do this act, maybe overpowering the beliefs in a new way. Didn't know that a cow's life is more precious than with a man .

I also heard that in India the cow is a sacred animal. I've read the news saying that if they see a cow they would bow down. Maybe so love them and they worship cows, they were angry to see the animals they consider sacred slaughtered and eaten. But because the majority of people in the world eat the cows, they should accept reality and be tolerant. It is hard to be certain, but killing is also not a good thing.

It's abysmal to kill a guy just because he is selling beef. From what I have read on this, this is a result of a regulatory change pushed by the new chief minister in a fairly right wing administration. The right would like to see beef slaughtering completely banned, as cows are sacred to the religious right in India. This has resulted in a campaign of small cuts; the regulatory bar is being raised to price many meat producers out of the market. This is overwhelmingly affecting Muslims, as they do eat beef, and are one of the few over there that would process an edible cow carcass (non edible is a completely different discussion). A lot of vigilantism has cropped up; and is being used to reinforce caste. Because only the lower castes would touch a dead cow. So easy to mob and harass these guys, who are just doing a pretty shitty job to get paid.

If you are living in a country, then you should obey the local laws. Cow slaughter is illegal in India, and despite that members of the minority community perform it and trade with raw beef. If you don't obey the laws, then you have only yourself to blame.

Such law or tradition can be strange for us, but it's their culture, their law. If you go to other country, you should follow laws, culture and tradition of this country. We, people from the West, are often arrogant and feel that we know the best, and that all other people in the world should follow us. It will never work. If you don't respect others, others will not respect you, your culture, tradition etc If I knew that cow is holy animal in India, I will not touch this animal, because of my respect toward this people.

I remember long time ago in the times of Fallout 1 and 2 (awesome computer games BTW) there were huge problems with releasing these games in India. All because there were brahmins in that games - a 2 headed mutated cows and player might kill them if he/she wanted to. Apparently that drama was even live in Fallout 3 times, read this: http://kotaku.com/5068797/is-this-why-fallout-3-wont-be-released-in-india

I agree, it is illegal, but it's also illegal to murder someone like those "cow saviors" are threatening to do. I suspect that even in India a human life has greater value than that of a cow. The punishment for doing something illegal is a fine or a jail, not being slaughtered by angry mob, which can happen in third world countries ruled by savages. We'll just have to wait until those crazy people kill someone for eating a burger and see what the government does about it.

Your post reads like something straight out of Marco Polo (the 13th century trader) diary. I have not heard about any foreigner in recent years being killed for buying beef in India. Respecting customs is one thing, killing everybody who doesn share them is altogether different. India is not Saudi Arabia, you wont get flogged for eating "haram" food on the street. What kind of problem do you have with Hindus, friend?

Is this really true for all hindus? I guess that there are only few who do this act, maybe overpowering the beliefs in a new way. Didn't know that a cow's life is more precious than with a man . Eating beef products is a good way to expand your waistline and increase your chances of becoming impotent and developing heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and other health conditions. Research has shown that vegetarians have 40 percent the cancer rate of meat-eaters. Plus, meat-eaters are nine times more likely to be obese than vegans are. Every time you eat animal-derived foods, you’re also ingesting fecal material, antibiotics, dioxins, and a host of other substances, some toxic, that can accumulate in your body and remain there for years. Why do vegans always have to shove it to your faces? I mean cant you eat grass, be happy, and let me eat meat if I wish? Eat healthy, eat meat also if you want, eat plenty of veggies, fruits and everything. Healthy is in diversing meals, and not shove yourself with junk food and candy.

Oh, you're talking about the recent ban on beef. This came into existence recently as for years beef was considered a food here and not many had an issue. I don't believe in killing animals but since I have to eaten non-veg, I would be considered a hypocrite if I comment on this decision. I believe that all animals have to be treated equally and not consider one as a God and the other one as dirt. Now they are trying to make the entire country a vegetarian and banning meat too.

For them cow is sacred animal and must be protected at any cost and they willing to defend their faith no matter what, but I think this is a bit ironic, you killed or hurt some one just because the person didn't have the same belief, I dont think any religion teach us to kill or to hurt someone
