Yes, smartphones contribute to bitcoin's growth more than we think. What's easier to do, start up your pc to send some btc or just pick up your smartphone scam a qr code and send the tx easily. So more people prefer having bitcoin wallet on smartphone, I do too it's way easier.

yes really smartphone changed the world and it has very contribution in bitcoin's or other altcoin growths. We can see our bitcoin price in smartphone and easy to buy and sell bitcoin through smartphone its like a "one click work". But we have to try to make it more safer from attackers when we are using smartphone.

except that Apple Pay doesn't cost you $1 every time you use it and doesn't take 10+ minutes (or possibly hours) for your payment to process....
if you are paying $1 for bitcoin transaction fee that means you have been accumulating a lot of dust in your wallet. go learn what transaction size in byte is and how it becomes big then come back.

right now fee for a normal transaction the highest fee is 40 US cents

you realise that at current prices, USD$1 equates to a little over 0.0008 or 80,000 satoshis...  given the current recommended fee of 160sats/byte, that would equate to a transaction size of around 500 bytes... it would only need maybe 3 inputs to get a transaction size close to that...

Have you considered what happens when you start buying a bunch of everyday things with bitcoin? a coffee here, burger and fries there, a beer at the pub, your groceries... you're going to be generating an awful lot of change addresses and a lot of (possibly) dust amounts in these change addresses that will be spent at some point...

Besides, even if fees were "only" 40c/transaction...  last month i had something like 80 transactions during the month...  for those 80, my fiat bank charged $0... maybe you'd be happy with a $30/month transaction bill, but i know which one makes more economic sense.

The future of Bitcoin is not going to be buying coffee with your phone... not unless off-chain transactions become prevalent... which isn't really buying things with Bitcoin on your phone.

Smartphones are really affordable by almost anyone today. When we go out and travel we see that almost everyone is using a smartphoe and has an internet connections. If there is no smartphone then the travel and flooding of information will be lessen because we can only surf the web using laptop and desktop at home and at shops.

This growth have increased because we have the the handheld devices that provide us the digital information, the availability of the product, or information made our world smaller and made opportunities for us to learn more things on easier way. The problem is its on us if we want to learn that particular thing.

I have noticed that we witness a big boom of cryptocurrency related applications on mobile of all kinds.

I have found out many mobile wallets, some funny games where you collect virtual bitcoins, games which are basically a different kind of faucet, and mobile crypto trading applications.

All of that was made because of a simple reason, bitcoin may be used also through mobile phones, and it is even more comfortable to have access to your cryptocurrency at smartphone you always have with you.

Im still waiting for a company, which ships smartphones (obviously It needs to be possible to use BTC as a payment method).

It can contribute to the growth of bitcoin. Absolutely. I don't have problems with the used of our smartphones, however, I believed there are dangers associated with it, like hacking and stealing your bitcoin in your wallet.

I know that this will pave a way for a lot of people to used bitcoin as means of on-line payment. But this kind of scenario will also open up a lot of opportunity for criminals stealing bitcoin similar to what ransomware or copy/paste virus is doing to PC. Security will be the main concern for every individual who will used smartphones to do online transaction.

The growth of smartphone and internet access have definitely helped the bitcoin adoption. However, most of the un-banked people will not be able to pay for the high fee for each transaction!

For example, Coinbase if charging 300-500 bits per transaction which is equal to about USD $0.50... The fee itself may already equal to several meals for people in some poorer countries.

Yes I was gonna mention the security issues concerned with smartphones, it's true that comparatively storing btc on Pc is safer than on a smartphone. The easiest way to get around this is to just store what you need, a little amount of BTC on smartphone and the most of your btc on PC or in cold storage to be more safe.

Bitcoin is not mobile-friendly as the blockchain is huge (SPV is not secure as a full node), confirmation times are long and fees are high.

More and more people are using smartphones thanks to budget friendly mid-rangers, almost anyone can now afford to buy a smartphone.

Mobile payment is becoming more common and it is an opportunity to acquaint people more into using bitcoin . Mobile payment will eventually replace credit cards or at least will make them less mainstream. An example  of this is Apple Pay. Bitcoin smartphone wallet  apps are to use when you have a transaction, you just scan a qr code and the transaction is done though will take some time to be confirmed.

i think yes smartphones are very vital for the growth of bitcoin because in every place there are alot of people who have smartphones with internet, and they can easily work in bitcoin forum with smartphones. only less number of people have laptops or computer for this.

I agree, this is really the most handy thing for bitcoins and without it there would be a great void that would not be filled. Without smart phones I don't think bitcoins could ever reach what it has reached today. It's like it's the tool of bitcoin like a hammer for a carpenter.

Not only smartphones but other mobiles also helped to introduce several people from third world countries to Bitcoins, as they don't have access to computer and maybe internet at home and there are many places on cities where there is free wi-fi connection, like squares, malls, stores, snack bars, etc... But I personally think nothing replaces a good computer or laptop...  Cheesy

Yea, but for bitcoin to really explode, Application developers should concentrate on normal phones and not just smart phones. The developing

countries use older phones and they need this technology the most. M-Pesa another digital currency can run on ANY phone and it is exploding

like a wild fire in some African countries.  Sad

except that Apple Pay doesn't cost you $1 every time you use it and doesn't take 10+ minutes (or possibly hours) for your payment to process.... what merchant is going to let you walk out of a shop with $20 worth of goods hoping the payment will go through sometime in the next hour or so?

On the other hand, Apple Pay is also centralised and doesn't provide even pseudo anonymity.

Bitcoin is fast moving away from being a viable solution for every day payments toward being useful only as a method of storing wealth. It is likely to get even further away in the future as block rewards get halved and transaction fees increase even more.

The days of shifting bitcoins around for pennies are long gone... unless you want to wait.
You said it.  Bitcoin is already dead as a currency,  but people just refuse to bury its rotten, bloated corpse.  But on the other hand it's thriving as a means to gamble and as a way to save money.  Those aspects of it are far from dead.  As for the importance of smartphones, they're not so critical for those uses.

Believe me,  bitcoin just isn't going to replace fiat in the Starbucks line.

Good point, I do believe that cell phones are going to be a vital part of the cryptocurrency revolution. Whichever coin integrates the best will be the most successful in the long run.

Agreed, that is definitely the future. But the point of slow transaction is also valid, bitcoin has to come up with something better to cope with it so it can be more popularized in the general people and business world.
I this this could be the only or the biggest hurdle standing in bitcoin's way for now.

Transaction is not slow as long as we pay the right amount per bytes, I never have problem with transaction after I learned about transaction fees, mostly they confirmed within 10 minutes range.  I had learned my lesson from my experience, sending low fees will definitely make you wait for a very long time.

Indeed with smartphones we can transact Bitcoin anywhere we want. We can even send funds even when we are out with friends.  As long as internet is available, smartphones can do alot of things for us, specially in Bitcoin transfers.

BIG WINNER!

Since smartphones are now part of our daily life, it is possible that smartphones will be used to utilize bitcoin's capability. Well I think this is already happening, right?

The banks today have their own apps that supports mobile payments, even for bitcoin. Some companies have apps for smartphones so that people can have transactions using mobile application. As a matter of fact, here in our country, Philippines, have a mobile application that supports mobile payment via bitcoin, it is called coins.ph. Its is very convenient. There is a direct conversion of bitcoin into fiat (Peso), you can also view the changes in  the value of bitcoin, and many more features. So basically, using smartphones for transactions via bitcoin is very convenient to every users.

And the best part is where you actually can hold millions of dollars in bitcoin in your mobile phone or in the clouds or both and go everywhere in the world with ease of mind without someone stops you in the airport. Even though apple alone has 4-6 times market cap as bitcoin and smart phone industry is 20 times more valuable than all the bitcoins yet blockchain has a more significant impact on our lives in the long term in the future than smart phones.

I don't think you will be able to use your smartphone to pay for your groceries/necessities in the foreseeable future ~5 years.
And that is probably the the most needed, serious usage of cryptocurrency we are waiting for - for other payments you don't need mobile access.
Also you guys overvalue smartphone revolution, some people are still not using smartphones, me included.

Smartphone is the most usage in this world, means almost everyone have in their pocket. Implementing bitcoin environment(like wallet, app, marketplace, ect) into smartphone will growth bitcoin user.
But the lack of smartphone is not really support bitcoin network environment, for example mobile wallet, also the security is not really guaranteed.

And the best part is where you actually can hold millions of dollars in bitcoin in your mobile phone or in the clouds or both

That's terrible idea, smartphone lack of security and use the clouds have a more chance you will be hacked.
