Hello everyone. I'm pretty new to bitcoin mining and have a question regarding my video card.
I currently am running a Geforce 8800 GTS 512 card (PCIe 2.0 I believe). It was a used card when I got it, having been a gift from someone who upgraded their system to better and their old was still better than my current at the time.
I am using Guiminer for my main mining. I have had no problems getting it to mine, but I only get around 27 Mhash/s results (which does get me accepts so I'm not complaining), but after a few minutes it starts getting hot and i drop to under 1 Mhash/s speeds, so I have to click stop mining.
As stated, it is an used, somewhat older card so I am considering buying a new one.
I'm a gamer at heart, so the card I buy would be more for gaming than mining, but I want to mine when not actively gaming. The Geforce 8800 was fine for gaming, but money is an issue so I can't go all out with a Sapphire or other similar $400 plus card....
I was looking at this card on Newegg, item #N82E16814134137
ECS NGTX560-1GPI-F1 GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card.
I was hoping someone knowledgeable could give me an opinion on if this card is an acceptable choice? Could I expect it to mine at least as fast as the 27-28 Mhash/s like my dying card?
Additionally, in case it matters, I am running Win 7 64 bit, but have Win 7 32 bit installed on separate hard drive on the same computer so can run either if something makes one a better choice than the other... I usually stay on the 64 bit and only boot to the 32 bit for a piece of software I have that won't run on 64 bit environment...
Thanks in advance for any opinions offered.
