Okay, so basically me and a few friends decided to build a rig and mine some litecoins. None of us had ever built a computer before so its been quite a learning curve, but we've managed to get it up and running. Unfortunately I've run into a problem that I can't figure out, so finally I've given in and decided to ask for help. I wanted to take the opportunity to move over to running linux, seeing as I keep hearing how much better it is once you learn how to use it.

So I'm running ubuntu desktop 12.04 on a bootable usb, but it keeps freezing up on the rig. Thing is, it works fine when I boot on my laptop. I thought it might be the driver for the GPU that needed replacing, but that hasn't seemed to help (although theres a high probability I haven't installed it properly). I don't really want to give up and revert to using windows, so I thought I'd post here and see if anyone has experienced a similar problem or could (hopefully) point out the simple mistake I'm making (if its 'using ubuntu' then fair enough, but I've never used linux before and wanted to make the transition as smooth as possible)

Heres our setup:

CPU: AMD Sempron 145 2.8GHz
Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme 3
GPUs: Radeon 7950 x 4
RAM: Komputerbay 4Gb
Power supply: Novatech Powerstation Black edition 1000W < Yeah we'll probably need more than this...

Any help would be much appreciated  Grin

Does it work with just one GPU?

No, I removed all but one. Still freezes up after about 5 minutes...

Ubuntu sucks, I tried it first for the rig, and after two days of pain I moved to Debian which works great with three 7950's.

Can't believe I spent that much time only to discover that the RAM I bought was dodgy...

Cheers for the input though, I will consider using debian instead although ubuntu *seems* to be working okay now.
