Charity initiative?

I've been in bitcoins for a couple of months but never posted on this forum so newbie I am.

I know that there is a lot of discussion of what is needed to move bitcoin into the mainstream and make it more viable as a functioning currency.  I agree with that and with the recent crash and the resulting fallout, it seems to me that it's more important than ever that steps be taken by the community to move bitcoin further forward in acceptance.  The area that would be most accepted and effective I think would be in charities around the world. 

It is important that there be an emphasis on the international capabilities for charities for obvious reasons because bitcoin provides such a simple method for somebody in the US for instance to donate to a charity in Cambodia or whatever two countries best fit the example.  The goal would be to create an awareness of bitcoins capabilities with organizations around the world to increase their income capability and for those charities to make the first steps needed to accept bitcoins. 

What I suggest is an announcement by a bitcoin group or community that on a certain day of the year, say 3 months after the announcement, a particular day will designated as "Bitcoins for Humanity" or whatever the phrase would be and that organizations who have the capability to accept bitcoins will be listed in a central database with links to their sites etc so that bitcoin holders can decide on the charity(s) they wish to contribute to on that day. 

It would be a positive, awareness building campaign that has the side effect of pushing bitcoin further along in its development. 

I'm curious what others think about such a project and very interested in suggestions in improving my initial concept.

I think that is a good idea. I especially like the idea of getting the organisations themselves aboard, at best by offering a bitpay button on their official site for donations. This way people are relatively safe from scam attempts.

Sounds like a good idea. The ease of BTC transfer makes it a no-brainer for donations. It might not work for some donors that want to include their tax donations as a tax break.

Would be great to emphasize that bitcoin isn't all about gambling, drugs & scammers. Stuff like this will prove Bitcoin's true potential and how it's community is more than just a bunch of crazy people
