So last week I was out of town, went to access my BCT account.  Damned if I could remember the password.  So I select forgot password and answer secret question.  I answer question and reset the password.  BOOM!!  Banned!!

I get "Sorry (old user account), you are banned from using this forum!
For security, your account has been locked. Email acctcomp15@theymos.e4ward.com"

I set up a new account and send off a message to mprep, get an answer back in a couple hours that I need to send a message to Cyrus or theymos.  I do that and nothing.  ask again and was told to add a signed BTC address. I do that.  Still nothing.

I have had the other account since 2014 and finally made it to Legendary status.

Point of this whole post is if you forget your password DON'T use the secret question.

Message from mprep Once you get your account back, make sure to disable the "Secret Question" recovery by setting both the question and answer fields blank.

Thanks for the info, but i think many users already know about this (account locked when user try to recover account with secret question).

I have been here over 3 years and never noticed it.  The worst part was losing all my PMs.

Just wait a little longer. The admins are the only ones who can unlock accounts and it takes a considerable amount of time to ensure that the person trying to recover an account is in fact the owner of that account.

I have been here over 3 years and never noticed it.
That change was added in May 2015 after the forum was hacked.

Not unless they tried themselves.I for one didn't know that recovering your account with secret question would get you ban.
What is the point of having this option if it is instead of helping recover the account, get us banned?

Thanks for posting this I didn't know that you get yourself in trouble if you use a secret question to recover your account,so it's much better to just use a strong password and keep it in a safe place where you are the only who can recover, newbies and even old members could get themselves in trouble without knowing this.

Another one saying thank you. I've made sure my secret question is so secret that it written in invisible typing (ie. blank). Smiley
