How are they going to force you hand over your private key? Are they going to point a gun to your face and make you recite your private key?
I mean if someone learns you are into bitcoin, and suspects or knows you have some coins. Their are lot of address where every one knows that lot of bitcoins are their but no one can know who owns it that is the beauty of Bitcoin, so even if anyone knows about your wallet holding high btc wont be risk until you dont have disclosed anywhere of your holding, in that case then one thing you can do is create a multi signature wallet and you keep one key and give other key to your friends or family or any one whom you trust it. Other then this i dont know much about security feature

A trezor wallet has the option to add hidden wallets behind a passphrase.
it's really smart because you can have multiple wallets behind multiple passphrases.
So you can just give a passphrase to a low amount of bitcoin, and just keep quite about the fact that there is a different passphrase to your main stash.
no one will ever know how much bitcoin you really have.

One thing I have thought about is that with bitcoin, someone could force you to hand over your private key. What sort of safeguards are there to prevent this happening, or to prevent them taking everything in that wallet? One thing one can do is leave Bitcoins on an exchange that will only allow you to withdraw $1000 worth per day, but then you run the risk of the exchange being hacked....what are the other options?
Someone can force you to hand over anything though. The best thing to do is split your bitcoin among bitcoin wallets that way you don't lose all your bitcoin. Someone can steal your car or empty your bank account . This is nothing new. You can upgrade security and things because someone will have to break into your house or something.

I dont know why would anyone brag about having some bitcoins stashed, that would be very stupid in case when someone knowing that, would plan how to rob this guy bitcoins. Well, there is no any possibility to take away the bitcoins without having wallet address of the victim, unless you can get access to the bitcoins through the device that a sufferer owns. As many people has already mentioned, there is no better way to just protect yourself by splitting the cash ( BTC) all over many wallets, but you need some kind of database of the addresses, and you should encrypt it as hard as possible, to prevent anyone getting hands on your money.

Correct wallets must be treated the same as bank accounts, most people have several bank accounts for different purposes and the same needs to become common practice for bitcoin especially since creating new wallets cost nothing at all.

The best thing is to learn self defense or martial arts so no one can threat you to hand over your private key if it is your wife consider this as beneficial to the whole family,I don't recommend leaving all your coins in exchange you run a 50% risk to lose all your coins.

I agree, if someone forced you to give all the keys to access your bitcoin wallet and you give him there's nothing you can do. the best option is to learn martial arts to defense so you don't give your keys.

How are someone going to force you to hand over bitcoins that they do not know about? If you publicly flaunt your Bitcoin hoard, you will paint a target on your own back. If they search my property today, they will only find a few paper wallets with small amounts of Satoshis, I prefer to store my real hoard in another safe location. < 2 locations >
Do not go around bragging about your wealth, it might come back and bite you on the ass. ^hmmmmm^

Exactly. You have more chance of having something stolen out your house or your phone stolen from your person. How is someone going to know you have bitcoin ? Its like if you write your password on paper. People say don't. But you should. People who come into your house are not looking for your bitcoin wallet I promise you. They want your TV and stuff. You don't know what other people do online so I don't see how this will ever happen. Just keep many wallets.

If I knew what my private key was, I would probably memorize it.
Then I would write a fake key down on a piece of paper.
If someone tried to force me to give them my key, I'd give them the piece of paper & hope they give up.
I don't know if this is a good idea or a bad idea but there has to be a small chance it would work?

That's a Brilliant idea so long as you can keep the correct keys in memory or a safe somewhere where they cannot be stolen from you. Secondly I think you should try as much as possible not to tell everyone around you about your storage of Bitcoin as it will arouse greed in the bad people around you.

I think that one of the best methods in securing yourself to not lose the bitcoins stored, by handing over your private key when someone is beating you to get it, is just to give him the fake privkey. But you need to prepare for it before something like that may happen, you should have access to at least 2 wallets. Let's say you have overall, 20 bitcoins. First of all, encrypt both of them and hide them somewhere, to make finding it really hard. Before doing that, just deposit 1 bitcoin on the one of them, and the rest on the second. If someone will try to force you, just give the smaller amount of money.

unfortunately this is very effective...myself..would be tough in a safety deposit box at the bank and you need 2 keys to get to it...myself and another out of state (cuts down on me spending btc on girls/wine/and strippers...yeah in hindsight it was dumb to do it this way...damn it!)

If they know for sure that you have a lot of Bitcoins and are willing to torture you to get them, you are pretty much screwed.
The main option, if you don't want to hand over your private keys and secure your coins, is to be always able to kill yourself instantly (say, by having a poison pill in one of your teeth or so). This secures your keys. This is why non-anonymous crypto is fundamentally flawed, because you transfer the danger of getting stolen, into the danger of getting tortured, if the knowledge of your possessing crypto is public.

The other opinions is use paper wallet of bitcoin put the private key on save place than put bitcoin on exchangers or we can put the bitcoin on online wallet, the secure online wallet is blockchain.info i never find the problem hacking issue on there at least up today. But actually between online and offline wallet of bitcoin always there is risk losing bitcoin, so never put all of bitcoin on one wallet.

yes it could be happen IF we are not be careful to keep our private key and the safeguards is to make sure the place that you want to save your private keys, make sure that there is no one will know where it is. i don't want to take my bitcoin in exchange only because we don't know how safe the site is and i think its better to save our bitcoin in offline wallet in no use pc and only us that can using that pc.
