Up for auction is a 1 BTC Casascius Coin minted on September 19th, 2011.  Mike first started minting the coins in September, so this is one of the first to ever be created.  It was recently graded by ANACS with a grading of MS63.

Bidding starts at 5 BTC.  Increments of 0.1 BTC minimum.  Bidding ends on 4/29/13 at 23:59 UTC.

Good luck!

Wow, ANACS is grading these now, huh? Any idea if PCGS or NGC grades bitcoin yet?

Well, nice coin... You're the first I know of to have had one professionally graded. :-)

Thank you!  It's the first I know of to be graded as well.  We'll see how the auction goes...

If this auction doesn't go anywhere, I'll be forced to put it on eBay.  Don't make me put it on eBay, people!

Are you surprised when you try to sell a max worth 2-3 BTC item for 5 BTC?

Well, I sold the last one for $866 on eBay, and that wasn't a graded coin.  Any of the 2011 coins in good condition are still regularly going for $900 on eBay.  I figure that I could start the auction at less than $866 and have a few bids, since I (thought) I could reasonably expect the auction for a graded coin to go higher than the auctions on eBay for ungraded coins.

I guess people on eBay are just willing to pay that much higher of a premium though?

Still two days until this auction ends. The real bids don't come until the final 6hrs or so.

I know you ask for BTC5 but in case you are entertaining other offers I will throw in BTC3 as a first bid.

A graded series 1 is worth a lot more than 2-3 BTC, IMO.

I think you'll reach your reserve.
