Would anyone be interested in buying home made dried apple/banana/strawberry/pineapple chips for Bitcoin?
I went to a Bitcoin meeting last night, and one of the hot discussion topics was what real world goods could you buy for Bitcoin. This idea hit me as I was making some dried fruit for camping trip this weekend.
I can't promise fancy logos or professional grocery store looking packaging, but if someone is interested I will make some and mail them to you for Bitcoin.

I will not. Because bitcoin transaction takes some time to confirmed and I do not want to spend too much on transaction fees to buy dried food. Maybe something else more in value...

If you are actually considering doing this, give us a shot at www.coingig.com and set up a store. Don't base your success on an opinion of one poster. I think its a good idea! The txn fees are actually not that bad and neither is txn time.

I read somewhere that people will use bitcoins when the transaction cost of using bitcoins is cheaper than the transaction cost of using currency or credit cards.
Illegal transactions and international exchanges are the obvious categories.

Dumb question...i thought one major advantage of bitcoin is that people could send it from peer to peer virtually free? (bypassing all conversions, exchanges, transaction fees and taxes)

Yes, but from a local vendor. I would get a kick out of spending Bitcoin at the farmer's market.

(bypassing all conversions, exchanges, transaction fees and taxes) I think it does take time to actually confirm the bitcoin transaction is indeed valid. A voluntary transaction fee will speed up the process. If BTC gets more in value, a 0.005 transaction fee for dried food may cost a lot?

Where are you from? I would be interested in buying dried fruit for bitcoins if you're from EU. And you can dry them with hot air coming from your GPU or ASIC mining bitcoins, it will sure give them better taste.

yeah same here... SOMEDAY we will but right now i'd rather use it for things I cant get elsewhere now, if you sold them for 75% off then yes.... (which would be smart to do since bitcoins will easily go up 75% in the next few years)

If you had a cool web storefront I would totally buy with BTC. In theory I'd prefer to buy most things with BTC if possible, it's just not really practical without established storefronts like Amazon (where you know pretty much what you're gonna get via reviews etc...).

I love dried fruit, but I would hesitate to buy any food that requires handling and processing that can go wrong (i.e. moulding, bad quality control, etc) from a business that isn't already working with regular currency.
