You probably heard the sentence: Bulls make money, bears make money but pigs get slaughtered.

A pig investor is somebody who only buys during a rally and does sell too late to realize his profits because he want to have even more profits.
A chicken investor is somebody who avoids getting in all together and waits for cheaper prices, forever.

Meanwhile the bulls have bought long before the pigs got in and the bears close their short long before the chickens have a chance.
Most of the self-proclaimed bulls here are in fact pigs and most of the self-proclaimed bears here are in fact chickens. Most newbies here are either pigs or chickens.

I realized from this post that I am a pig.

But you guys can forgive me. For two reasons.

1st) I've USED bitcoin for a long time before I started holding, contributing to the economy. I was well aware of what had been happening in the bitcoin world when I started scooping up coin in February.

2nd) Being a pig caused me to read these forums, making me aware of these different strategies, causing me to reevaluate my (read: form an) investment strategy. So even though I started a pig, I claim that I have legitimately become a long term bull.

Personally I'm a human. I make plenty of mistakes and try to learn from them, without having to identify with some random farm animal.

I'm glad this thread exists. People throw around "pig" on this forum like it's some kind of incantation to turn people they disagree with into people who are wrong.

I'm far too much of a fool to tell what way the wind's blowing. Best I can do is build a robot to do my trading for me, and do my best to silence my sometimes porcine, sometimes galline gut.

If there is something that will make Bitcoin succeed, it is growth of utility - greater quantity and variety of goods and services offered for BTC. If there is something that will make Bitcoin fail, it is the prevalence of users convinced that BTC is a magic box that will turn them into millionaires, and of the con-artists who have followed them here to devour them.

so if you bought @$5($2) and sold half @$160($260) (with investment $10,000) you still have 1000 btc and $160,000($650,000) USD

Here's the thing.

Markets are useful in different ways to different people. You can use them to buy things you need. You can use them as a hedge. Or, you can try to game the market and win money playing patty-cake.

If you're in the latter category - if you're in the market to game it - you have to accept that it's a negative-sum game. If you're winning, it means someone else is losing; people who bought at the wrong time line the pockets of the people who sold to them, and people who sold at the wrong time line the pockets of the people who bought from them. If you're playing the game, that's the math of it.
