my recommendation is NEM because there is a moment that this coins will be increase, i hope that will increase in short time or this week or next week. beside that, NEM have a good project and is not yet gets pump in higher, so i think in short time, the price will be increase like another coins but we need to wait for a while.

Check out EDG, just got added to bittrex, price will be going up from here. Very good coin with a good team behind it as well. I was looking into it before it got added to rex but not it is i pulled the trigger and bought in.

if you have $100 to invest then invest in bitcoin, you can always be sure that even if bitcoin price goes down, it will come back up someday sooner or later.
but with altcoins the same thing is never true. you should that altcoins are pump and dumps without any real world usage. so that means buying them when price of them are high like in a bubble after the pump there is a good change of them going down and when they do go down there is no coming back and even if it comes back it would take months if at all.

with that said, and you knowing the risks, i suggest PIVX, ARK, Litecoin (specially LTC since it has gone down recently and it still has the SegWit going)

Why ARK? It was pumped couple of days ago but now it's falling. NEM, on the other hand, is on the rise, but if you will decide to invest in NEM be careful, don't miss the point when you should sell it. IMO it might happen in a couple of weeks.

I personally think that Litecoin is a good investment now. Another good option would be Ethereum (ETH) in my opinion.

1 edgeless coin, project gambling site is good after listing in bittrex always incraese price
2 Time coin, total suply only 700k coin, and now is low price, longterm price can incraese high

You should take a look on LTC (due to the fact that it is an established altcoin) or some "penny coin" that you hope that will have a huge price rise. For the later, you need to do some homework and try to decide which one is worthy of you money.

Since $100 isn't much, you should look for coins that will pump big time. Probably brand new ones that recently got added to exchanges.
My advise would be not to bother with coins that cost more than 15k satoshi or already established ones.

I'd suggest stratis or ripple, I think at the rate you can purchase them right now will probably give you a decent amount of profit in the coming days.
But do your research too, don't go with anybody's word here.

you are right about ARK but it took a dip and that could potentially make it a good short term investment on the rebound. haven't checked the markets to see if it has already or not though!

actually these small coins are the hot coins of the time-being. the bigger coins such as Dash and Ether that everyone loves to repeat are already over and are dead cat bouncing.

for example PIVX has gone up from 2000 to 170000 in a month or so
and ARK has gone up from 3000 to 30000 satoshi in a month or so.

these are profits that you should look at not sticking to big coins so maybe they go up another +5% after the pump or get dumped another -20%

Get coins that cost below $0.10. Sure, you might invest in Bitcoin or some more expensive than ~$5, but you're probably going to make an extra $10 in a month risking $100. It would be much better to look for coins that cost under $0.10, see their announcements here, websites, check their roadmap etc.
