The block chain is the main innovation of Bitcoin. It is the first distributed timestamping system.

oh i see, because i'm new.

well, there's no risk involved in pasting a bitcoin address.

i've already sent 0.02 to each of the following members:

http://payb.tc/coinonymous
http://payb.tc/ggg

maybe you can find them and ask them to confirm or look at block explorer.

There's been a lot of scammers fishing here lately; add that with the recent mtgox eploits, and you'll see why we're weary of these "sign up and get BTC" threads.

no problem, i can see why people would be suspicious of a new link.

what i don't know (maybe not technical enough yet) is how it can be risky to paste a bitcoin address (essentially text) into a site.

is 0.02 too low?

It seems I can't create short names starting with the letter 'M'. It gives me an invalid characters error.

that's weird, the regexp uses a-zA-Z0-9

uh, duh, actually it's just because of uppercase... using 'm' is fine... stupid error i will get that fixed thanks.

It shouldn't be risky at all. The ideal user of bitcoin will generate a new link to his/her wallet with ever transaction. So if I signed up for your site, I'd make address X. If I wanted to get bitcoin from Satoshi, I'd generate an address, Y, for that transaction. You can't do much with an address except send coins to it, or look it up in the block explorer.
