Balance problems

Hey guys, my friend got me into bit coin mining yesterday but after we realized I wasn't getting a balance he told me to post on here.
Basically what's happening is that I have a hash rate but I haven't gotten a balance even though I've left my computer on with the miner for a while.

If anyone could help me out that would be awesome!~

What sort of mining equipment are you using? (CPU, GPU, FPGA, ASIC)

What is your current hash rate?

What pool are you mining with? (Or are you attempting to solo mine?)

As others have said, are you mining in a pool or solo mining? This will affect where your balance shows up.
