My GPU is a Radeon HD 7870, I just wanna mine while I'm sleeping. My electricity is split between 5 people, so usage isn't an issue either, but the gui program is only detecting my CPU (i7). Just wondering if anyone could help me out or point me in the right direction, thanks.

You need to install the Ati Open CL drivers so it can be used as a processor instead of a GPU.

This may sound stupid but, try: uninstalling/reinstalling the video card drivers (Catalyst 11, 12, or 13), install an SDK 2.1 or 2.5 or whatever works best for your specific card. If you haven't, plug your monitor into the card and don't use the video input on your mobo.
I'm just trying to cover all your babes just in case you missed one the following steps. If anyone has another suggestions that I may have missed.

One other thing, If you're on XP (32-bit), the AMD/ATI Catalyst 11.8 drivers are the latest you'll find with full OpenCL support. Anything after that they seem to have dropped CL from XP (in favor of a newer architecture perhaps).
The package is called: 11-8_xp32_dd_ccc_ocl
Also, StreamSDK_2-2_xp32 worked for me

This. Same issue when i began and installed the new catalyst suite and everything worked You need to install the Ati Open CL drivers so it can be used as a processor instead of a GPU.

Oh my. I get 5.0 Mhash/s on just 3 cores of CPU! An ATI card should pull no less than 100Mhash/s.
Make sure you're picking the video card in the GUIMiner worker's "Devices" dropdown, it may default to your CPU. It may have a funny name like "Juniper".

It does have a funny name, like Claudia or something. But GUIminer says im going at 156.805 even says similar on the LTC mining site im on... Am i missing something here? Not sure the difference between khash/sec and mhash/sec. with just my crap cpu/onboard gfx i was pulling 5-20 khash/sec....
I have a 7770 card.

MHash is Millions of Hashes per second where khash is Thousands, so it sounds like you're getting 1000 times less horsepower than you should be. Has all this hashing resulted in a single accepted share? You should be getting thousands a day.

I had similar problem - 5kH/s with my HD7950 and a cgminer! Terrible! To fix it I: - properly installed ATI Drivers - run cgminer with some switches that tweak the card - run everything on Ubuntu (but I believe that your Windows is good too)
Maybe try to use 'cgminer'?
