how long does it normally take? I've seen it happen almost instantly and then when I tried to send money to my other wallet it hasn't been confirmed for almost a half hour?

It is dependant on the amount send and related fee. If the fee is too low, it will take very long for it to be confirmed!

Although I have had it take up to 10hrs for a confirmation before, normally it's under an hour. It depends on the transaction fees as well.

an hour to up to 12 hours, depends on where it's going and what amounts.
