His performances worsened by a lot if you compare his first Real Madrid season with his second season there. All his stats went down and his impact on their game was definitely not the same as it was during his first season. It could be for several reasons, but one reason I think is that he played a different position, which I am not sure is the perfect one for him.

During his first season he played a lot of center forward like, not necessarily as a pure striker, but somewhere in that area offensive midfield with the option to also switch into attack mode. That suited him very well and the statistics spoke for him, but now that Mbappe is there, that position was occupied and I think he mostly played left midfield this season.

This doesn't mean he is a bad player in that position, but I think the scoring statistics were so overwhelmingly good during the first season that I am not it is a good decision to let him play where he now used to be most of the time.

I agree with you,even from small countries or countries that arent big in football you can find good or amazing players it just matters how good your scouting is. A lot of players will still look at wages. I think the players definitely have a realisation that such a bad season is not a judgement on them, that the team was top not so long ago, something just happened and went wrong, so they can get back to the top, and that's why Tottenham could be considered for a move if they also offer good wages
