I don't think Trossard's replacement is going to be a backup, but rather... A competitor to Martinelli.
Martinelli can be very disappointing in some games, especially when it requires him to take on a defender in a 1V1 situation. The incoming player needs to be as good, maybe better, than Trossard. Arsenal can not afford to get a player who's worse, because they've already attain a height where only good players can fit in quickly.

I think this is a very good deal for all parties involved. Trossard has been a good player for Arsenal and also helped them in winning the premier league after 22 years. Arsenal definitely needs an upgrade in their left wing, so they have to move on some players to create space for new signing. Bradley Barcola would be expensive, and I also don't think that PSG want to let him leave. Meanwhile, Tzolis would be available for as low as £30m. Mikel Arteta is skillful in grooming young players to superstars. And this might be what he wants to achieve when the Greek international arrives at Arsenal.
